GlossyBox For Men March 2012

So finally the GlossyBox For Men has arrived for my husband.  He loves getting his surprise male grooming products in his 'man box.'  I have to say he's not vain at all and can sometimes annoyingly not care what he looks like but for when hes feeling in the mood to improve his skin, etc then these sized tubes are perfect for him as its enough to use until he starts getting a little bored with it all again ! This box is delivered quarterly but has 7 luxury sized samples for £15 plus P&P.
The box is a very manly taupe brown colour - identical to the female version on the outside but plain black on the inside rather than the pink crown logo.  The products lay on a bed of those paper widget things (does anyone know the name of them? answers on a postcard!) wrapped in tissue paper and finished with a GlossyBox sticker, tied with a black ribbon. The card inside reads 'Gentlemen, the wait is over.  You next dose of the ultimate grooming products has arrived!  Containing the greatest and latest manly must haves, you can be sure your look is more couture than clown'
Onto the products (and my thoughts along with hubby's)

Organic Homme By Green People - Active Fix Repair Serum 20ml (full size is £16.50 for 50ml) The card says 'Extraordinary age reversal plant formula with a clinically proven cell rejuvenator to actively reduce wrinkles.  The scent is really fresh and organic.  What I like about it is the directions are literally 'lightly tap on to face and neck, particularly focusing on heavily lined areas'  For those men out there like my hubby that are slightly hopeless with fancy instructions this is one step that they can all manage !

4711 - The Original Eau De Cologne 3ml (full size is £10.95 for 50ml)  The card says 'Pour a generous amount of cologne into cupped hands and apply liberally around the neck, cheek and wrist area for instand refreshment.  I think most people will recognise this cologne - it was only GemsMaquillage (YouTuber & Blogger) that was talking about it in one of her recent videos and how she loves it's history and scent.  This cologne was created in 1792 and is formulated from the essential oils of citrus fruits blended with Rosemary, Lavender and Neroli. This unique scent is suited to both sexes and its ultra-fresh citrus notes instantly revive the wearer.

The Legends London Alum Matchsticks - Full size product RRP £1  The card says 'Natural after shave astringent' When my husband saw these in the box he said 'MATCHES?!' and was a little puzzled but these little matchsticks seem to be a brilliant idea.  Used after shaving, the alum matches calm razor burn, soothe and help to keep recently shaving skin in good condition.  Hubby kindly advised me that I will need to get a massive amount of these since he tends to cut himself on a regular basis !!

Liz Earle For Men Face Scrub 30ml (full size is 75ml for £13.25)  The card says 'Pumice and jojoba beads exfoliate and help clear blocked pores - leaves skin clearer and ultra-smooth.  This was the product that I was most excited about and my eyes were drawn to it when we opened the box.  For valentines day I purchased hubby the travel range of Liz Earle products which contained the hot cloth cleanser and moisturiser so now he can try out the face scrub as well which his skin does need.  Good for you GlossyBox for getting a brilliant brand into the box !

FAB Body Moisturiser 56.7g (full size is £13 for 226.8g) The card says 'The ultimate travel companion for all skin types that provides irritant-free hydration'  This moisturiser has two major plus points for me - its paraben free but most importantly its fragrance free which is perfect for men and will cover all of the skin types.  Hubby has really sensitive skin so it is important that the products he uses is suitable for him.  I also like the packagine - 'First Aid Beauty' apparently !!

Kyoku For Men Sake Infused Shave Cream 9ml (full size is £25 for 170ml)  The card says 'Prevents redness, irritation and moisture loss and guarantees a razor slick glide for a smooth, calming shave.  This sounds like a dream product for men if it lives up to it's promise.  I have to admit I am a lady who doesn't mind dropping some cold hard cash for a good product so for the price of this cream I would hope it is brilliant.  It's a shame its only a sachet and not a miniature but beggers can't be choosers eh?!

Dr Bronner's Magic Liquid Soaps Lavender Hand Sanitiser 59ml - full sized product - £3.99  The card says 'a lavender scented hand sanitizer in  a handy spray size, perfect to carry around with you.  My thoughts?  If you had to read this one twice then you probably had a simular reaction to both hubby and I !!  I'm not sure how I feel about having a hand sanitiser in a 'male grooming kit' - let alone a lavender one (which has the stereo type of being an older lady's fragrance)  I'm certain the spray will be handy but its a lot more likely that either hubby will leave it in his car for emergency freshen ups or I will use it in my handbag.  I think it was a rather unusual choice and a shame that it wasn't a more general fragrance if they had to put a hand sanitiser in at all !!

All in all - hubby is happy.  The box paid for it's self although I would have liked to see a miniature fragrance in there.  I lik GlossyBox For Men as I think I can keep an eye on what he likes and uses and it's a perfect present then to buy the full sized versions for him.  We shall eagerly await the next one in June !!

JolieBox March 2012

So todays post is all about the March JolieBox - their first all full-sized products box (yes you've read that correctly!) Now compared to my slight disappointment last month - this has really taken me by suprise (and i'm sure a lot of other people too - definitely those who unsubscribed after last months box!) I was delighted to see that they seem to be continuing on with the fabric bag as opposed to the paper pieces in all of the other beauty boxes - I've been using the other one to keep my glitter pots & coloured acrylic in and it was getting a little overstuffed so now I de-clutter it a little!!

This months theme is 'Put a spring in your step' according to the card enclosed which has all of the products listed.  So onto the good stuff... the products.

Yardley Luxury Body Wash - 200ml £2.50  The card says 'A luxury body wash to cleanse and nourish the skin.  Available in three floral scents'  Mine is in 'Royal English Daisy' and as you can imagine it is a slightly floral scent with hints of... I think possibly citrus? its sweet anyway and truly is luxurious.  The the price I think its amazing quality and you truly do get a lot of product.  I'm actually interested in testing the other two scents out as well.
Davines Authentic Moisturing Balm 75ml - £9.99 The card says 'A natural and conditioning balm to be used on face, hair and body.  Conditioning ingredients such as jojoba and sesame oil'  I feel like I say this with every box but the scent on this product is really calming - just like the sleep sprays that you apply to your pillow at night.  I'm interested to try this out on my hair as when I first read it I thought it sounded odd that you could put a product on your skin as well as your hair.
Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner - Power Pink £10 The card says 'This skinny eyeliner pencil provides precise definition and intense long-lasting colour.  Available in six different shades.  My instant reaction was disappointment - i'm not going to lie to you as I knew this product has been featured in another beauty box (February edition of GlossyBox) but I was delighted to see that this time I have the pink one since last time I received the plum shade.  When I uploaded my GlossyBox video I remember there was a lot of talk of people receiving the pink one and I said to one subscriber 'pink sounds a little odd for an eyeliner' but she replied and told me its for your waterline to help make your eyes look awake (an alternative to white eyeliner) and thats when I decided it sounded brilliant - and it is!!

LCD Nail Polish 8ml - £10 The card says 'A fasty drying polish available in four on-trend pastel shades.  I actually can't seem to find the colour to mine but its the white shimmer polish that I received.  I have to admit it's pretty but for the size of it it's pretty expensive !! A regular sized OPI is 15ml and retails for around £10 (in the UK) thats basically double the size of this bottle !!  I've not seen this brand before - both as a consumer or in a professional sense but I have to say the packaging doesn't scream luxury or high-end which is a shame.

JolieBox Mirror The card says 'A dainty compact mirror that will fit perfectly in your make-up bag'  It certainly is dainty & pretty delicate but i'm sure everyone who has received it will put it to good use - I know I certainly will and it was lovely to receive something that's a little different.  It's super lightweight and very thin.

Also in the box was the first edition of 'JolieMag' which is a nice refreshing read.  It features a little mention of some of the previous products they have sent but mainly has current fashion and beauty products.  Brilliant idea JolieBox!

Overall - this box was brilliant and more than I ever thought a beauty box would do (although Carmine does come pretty close to it pretty much every month and this is why they have always been a favourite of mine but are now merging with GlossyBox)  My only concern is how will they top this next month or will we be left pining for another 'March' box!

New MAC Lipstick - Viva Glam Nicki

Today I got a little suprise... having waited in at home expecting a part to be delivered for our washing machine, a van finally pulled up and a man got out to ring our doorbell.  The parcel was in my husbands name and was fairly flat but I signed for it and closed the door.  When I sat down to open it I realised that the returns address said 'MAC' and call me stupid but I just figured that this stood for something from whereever hubby ordered the part from.  I opened the packet and thats when the penny dropped, he'd ordered me the Viva Glam Nicki lipstick which is Nicki's Minaj's 'Scene-stealing pink lipstick' as a surprise ** major brownie points for hubby **

I know there has been alot of talk about this lipstick since it was released a few weeks back but I had mentioned that I would have liked it.  I have Viva Glam Gaga (the first one thats pink) and Viva Glam Cyndi and I love the cause behind it (The full RRP - less VAT - from the sale of these lipsticks goes toward helping women, men and kids everywhere affected by HIV and Aids)

So onto the colour...   the top photo really is true to colour - this lipstick is a bright neon pink with hints of orange tones.  For some people this might seem unwearable - to me its how you wear it (how many times you swipe it across your lips & the makeup you choose to wear with it) that will make it wearable or not.  I have a feeling this is not a colour that will be loved by all as it is so bright but I love it !! I loved Viva Glam Gaga so this is right up my street !! I have long dark brown hair with a chunk of blonde hair underneath but mainly dark so I think this really brights up my complection and would look great with a tan!!  It's a satin finish were as Viva Glam Cyndi & Gaga were both lustre.  This is possibly my first satin MAC lipstick and its really soft and smooth on my lips - no feeling of drying.  It has that classic MAC scent to it (just incase you're wondering!)

Overall - I love it!! Its such a fun summer colour !!  I am a very lucky wife !!

GlossyBox UK March: The Harrods Edition

The wait is over... GlossyBox's 'Mystery Box' was announced last week that March's 2012 box is a Harrod's Edition box!!  Mine arrived this morning and I was beside myself with excitement !!  The outer box is the usual brown with the GlossyBox logos and then behold the inner box... a GORGEOUS glossy white with the Harrods & GlossyBox details.  Opening the lid of the box and there is black tissue paper with a green Harrods ribbon with their gold logo running through it.  The tissue paper has a matching gold Harrods sticker holding it in place.  At this point its screaming 'luxury' at me right away and then.... onto the good stuff...

Narciso Rodriguez - For Her Eau De Perfum - 1ml  The card says: A tribute to women's grace and power of inspiration.  This fragrance is really sophisticated - it would definitely make me feel womanly wearing this and I really like it.
Molton Brown - Heavenly Ginger-Lily Moisture Bath & Shower  The card says: Vitamin-rich fruit extracts boost the skin and invigorate the senses.  I've fancied trying something Molton Brown products out after seeing them all the time on QVC so this is perfect.  It has a pretty strong floral scent that I really like.  The full sized version is 300ml for £18, this sample is 30ml so its basically £3.
YSL - Forever Youth Liberator Serum 5ml  The card says: A powerful serum enriched with 3 glycans to help increase youthful activity in skin cells (In Vitro Test) The moment my little eyes feasted on the YSL logo I was excited - my eyes were drawn to it and I let out a little squeal - now THIS is luxury !! Having only tried one YSL product I am very keen to give this a try.  The full sized version is 30ml so this bottle is worth £4.80.
Clarins Extra Firming Body Cream 30ml  The card says: A formula rich in regenerating and firming plant extracts which immediately helps to lift and tone, for firmer skin and a younger looking body.  My thoughts? Wow this is a huge sample size that I can totally test out with quite a few uses.  The full sized version is 300ml for £28 so this sample is just short of three pounds worth of product.
Burberry Beauty - Miniature Lipcover Rosewood No.4  The card says: The soft satin lipstick offers intense moisture and luminous long-lasting colour for fuller lips.  I have tested this briefly and from what I have seen it totally lives up to the promise !! This colour is a dusty rose / red brick shade and is pretty glossy.  Another point that I LOVE about this miniature is the attention to detail.  It's all I would expect from Burberry but the packaging and even the Burberry detail imprinted onto the actual lipstick is fantastic.  A full sized version is £23 for 3.8g and this miniature is 0.8g so it works out to £4.84.

Overall... I LOVE THIS BOX !! Its fantastic - it screamed luxury from the outset and has left me utterly delighted !! I wish that all of the beauty boxes could be on this level.  I recognised each brand name and it truly was a 'high end' box.  I'm not entirely sure if any other box could top this... here's hoping !!

New MAC Purchase!

So I went to the local CCO just to see what was available and it was actually the first time that I've looked properly at the lipsticks & lipglosses.  This sounds totally ridiculous but the last time I was in there I said to my husband 'who is going to buy half-used lipsticks?!' since there was just a big pot of lipsticks without lids etc with prices on... I failed to see the sign that told you to take the tester to the till to purchase a NEW one.  How embarassing that it didnt occur to me - and I consider myself to have a little bit of intelligence !!  ** cringe **

Anyway - my eye was drawn to this lipstick - MAC in 'O' which is a frost shade.  I have a few MAC lipsticks but only ever bought via their website and tend to keep buying simular colours so when I saw this one I think it took me back to years ago when I had this sort of dark brown chocolate colour.  My initial reaction was 'this is a crazy colour' but my time on You Tube has taught me that things are not always what they seem so I gave it a little swatch.

A quick swipe and it gives a beautiful bronze glow with slight flecks of gold.  On the lips it turns them into a deeper red/brown with a hint of gold shimmer.

What gets me the most about this lipstick is in every light its a little bit different...

* In the tube is a vampy looking deep brown
* On my hand it's bronze.
* On my lips in the light its a red/brown with shimmer.
* In other lights its a dark vampy brown
* When I wiped the swatch off my hand with a tissue it had a plum tone to it !!

Whichever way it looks i'm pleased to say it's in the permanent line (I always get suprised when its a permanent product as I assume the CCO stock is all clearance lines)  This lipstick wont be for everyone - I have dark hair and features but on lighter hair and skin tones I can imagine it may look a little gothic (if thats what you're after this is perfect!)

It's a shame I didn't come across this in the Autumn/Winter but i'll wear a gentle swipe of it through the summer until then!

JolieBox February 2012

So here it is... the long overdue JolieBox February post.  To cut a long story short, the box didn't arrive when everyone else's did so I emailed them and they advised for me to allow a week.  When it still didn't arrive they issued a replacement that arrived two days later.  One thing I can say about JolieBox's customer services is each time I received a reply within a couple of hours and felt that they resolved the problem quickly.
So... let's get onto the products...

Jane Iredale Just Kissed Lip & Cheek Stain in Forever Pink. The card says...  An all-natural, multi-purpose stain that adjusts its colour to your mood and temperature.  I think that this product smells AMAZING!  It smells just like jelly beans.  The stain is pretty subtle and makes my lips just a little bit of a coral colour and really well moisturised.  I'd be interested to try more products from this brand.

Lavera Basis Sensitive Organic Hand Cream. The card says... An organic hand cream with shea butter and almond extract.  I've tested this product out for the past few days and the biggest plus point for me is the fact that it is non-greasey, it just sinks right into your skin leaving your hands smooth.  The scent is really uplifting and fresh.

Macadamia Deep Repair Masque - full size.   The card says... The ultra-conditioning hair masque will rebuild damaged hair for improved shine and elasticity.  I'm looking forward to trying this out and might try and spread it into two uses since my hair is not too long.

Kimia Rejuvenating Facial System.  The card says... This facial oil and hydra-activator will nourish and heal the skin.  I have to be honest.. I was a little disappointed to see this in the box as I already have received this sample from one of the beauty boxes (I can't think which one) I know this directly isn't JolieBox's fault but i'm starting to see the same brands pop up again and again which is a shame.  I'm sure this product is as lovely as it sounds... I shall let you know !

Taaj Himalaya Miceller Water  The card says... An antioxidant and tonic make-up remover that will revitalise and purify skin.  I have to admit that I don't often use a make-up remover... I'm guilty of using the make up wipes which I know from my beauty training doesn't remove ALL traces of make-up but they're quick and convienent... so I'm welcoming the chance to try something that will hopefully stop me using the naughty wipes!!

Overall I have to say I was quite disappointed with this months box.  I always remind myself that we shouldn't expect full sized products because afterall - they are a bonus and not what the boxes are advertised as but I felt that this box felt a little... empty.  I think my disappointment was also because they didnt release a January JolieBox so I had high hopes that this months box would be amazing PLUS the fact that my box did not arrive when everyone else did.

That being said, I will stay subscribed to JolieBox - this is only their second box since they merged with Boudior Prive so I should imagine it will take a little while to get into the swing of things.

Birthday Girl Blogs

So today is my 27th Birthday. I've never really been bothered about my age until now - as I creep up towards 30 I think I might carry on celebrating my birthdays but stop counting up the numbers !! Its been a good day - I just launched my 'Birthday Giveaway' on You Tube (Click HERE to watch) and my phone has been buzzing even more than it was before with emails from all of the entry comments (My phone has been going crazy today anyway with text messages and emails wishing me a happy birthday which is lovely!) I started the day pretty early (it's amazing how you can always manage to get up early on your birthday and Christmas isn't it?!) My husband was already out of bed... and the car was gone... he'd gone to get me a McDonalds Breakfast (I've been slimming down for the past 6 months so this is something that I obviously haven't had in a long time!) Hubby and I spent the day with my parents at Chester Zoo (I love it there!) and it was a good walk (burnt off a few bites of the McDonalds I hope!)

If i've managed to make some of the calories vanish then my 'birthday cake' was 12 Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  These little beauties are sooooo bad for you but I adore them so they're a total treat.

So here's my main present...  some people might be suprised but the moment I didnt want any jewellery or perfume etc but wanted something to help make the lighting better for my photos and videos as I love doing them and just want to make the best of what I can.  I know NOTHING about lighting and gadgets like that but I saw these and thought they seemed like what I needed and hoped for the best !!  My giveaway video (linked in first paragraph) was filmed at 11.30 last night with NO lights on in the room - just these two lamps and I was delighted with the result, now I can film day or night !!

Amongst other presents I got these shoes off my husband.  I saw them in New Look and tried them on but they weren't suitable for the wedding I was going to. Obviously he made a mental note (brownie points!)  They're from their 'wider fit' range which is brilliant for my duck feet(!)  They were £19.99 and are available in navy too which are really lovely (I may go and purchase these too!) I took this photo with my new lights - ahhh I love them !!
I'm sad that my birthday is drawing to a close, every year i'm like this and I hate the feeling !!  I remember as a child being devastated when it was time for all of my friends to leave my party !! I suppose I just have to tell myself that if it was my birthday everyday then 1) it wouldnt be as special and 2) i'd be REALLY old !!
