Focusing On: CND Shellac in Butterfly Queen

Today's post is focusing on that amazing new glitter shade by CND in Butterfly Queen.  I couldn't have been happier that they brought out a glitter shade as I know many adore the limited edition glitters and this one truly is a stunner.

New INK London iLac Swatches

When Chrissy at INK London told me she was sending a parcel up and that it was for me and not to review, I must admit I was extremely excited.  If you haven't seen my review and demo of INK London iLac - click here but in a nutshell, it's fantastic and I love it.

Anyway, I figured I still wanted to show you the contents of the parcel with colour pops so that if you're an iLac lover or perhaps thinking of trying it, you have them to help you choose!

As part of my review, I mentioned that I felt like their cuticle remover should be in a dropped style packaging for hygiene reasons which they have now changed so they did also include a bottle with the dropper.  I love that they listen to feedback and take it on board.

As cream formulas are my favourite, I was delighted to see that six out of the seven shades did not contain shimmer which was the icing on the cake.  I do like shimmer though - don't get me wrong - I just tend to gravitate towards colours without it.

Initially I did think that I-67 and I-68 were almost identical until I swatched them and it was obvious that I-67 is more of a purple toned grey compared to the much darker I-68.  The tiffany blue, I-74 is absolutely stunning and will be undoubtedly highly popular but also the other two blues, I-70 and I-84 are close favourites of mine.

If you haven't watched the demonstration  of iLac, you simple must!  The removal is mind blowing!  I hope you've found this post useful!  Don't forget to follow my Facebook Page to keep up to date with my latest posts.

Milani Baked Blush in Bella Rosa

It's no secret that I'm complete make up junkie and I need more of it like I need a hole in the head.  That aside I absolutely can't resist popping over to the States and picking up brands that I can't get at home to try out.  Last time I was over there I purchased all kinds including Milani Baked Blush in 'Bella Rosa.'

The colour in the packaging is super bright but I have the thoughts were as that just means the blush will go a lot further.  I generally prefer the brighter shades as you just tap it onto your cheeks in a really small amount and blend.

The packaging is a little cheap looking but it never really bothers me as it's the product inside that counts ultimately and considering this is a drugstore blush I would rather it was like this than a price increase.

Now for my issue with this bad boy, the pigmentation.  It's fantastic but, it's just far too much.  I tap my brush into it, barely allowing the bristles to touch and it's just so difficult to use to get that flush that I want.  I think that this blush would be perfect for darker skintones only but it's less than forgiving on lighter ones!

My Work: Deep Blue Sea Nails

Today's post is just a quick one to show you my recent work because I just fell in love with the combination.  Jo books in for her nails every other Monday and as time has got on I really know the sort of shades she likes (generally colours like CND Shellac in Cocoa which is her absolute favourite) but every now and again she will surprise me like this appointment where she said that she fancied blue.

Within moments she had chosen CND Shellac in Blue Rapture with Lecente Golden White Glitter over it.  Originally she was going to have the glitter all over but I showed her what it looked like in an ombre effect and she loved it.  Lecente Golden White Glitter looks fantastic over any shade but over the blue it gives an amazing green and gold shimmer.

Empower Nail Art Ring Thing

I was extremely excited to receive a 'Ring Thing' from Sarah at Empower Nail Art UK to review.  Personally I adore my CND Thumb Palette that I got free with one of the collection of Additives and I use it often however I have found that if I have quite a few colours on it then they will often move around and in some cases, mix.  Also if I wanted to mix a glitter paste it would be on the flat surface which is slightly more messy than into a curved dish.

The Ring Thing was created by TeamEmpower which consists of Lucien Henderson, Founder of Empower Nail Art and Holly Schippers aka. TheFingernailFixer.  The idea behind it is to literally use is for all of your nail art needs, you can use it to mix, hold,  products together, create custom made cabochons - whatever you like!

Ring Thing (Left) compared to original Thumb Palette

With a mix of shaped areas I can add glitter pastes, gel polishes, mixes of Additives all in the one area and have them waiting for me at my convenience.  The band that goes around your thumb is fully adjustable and very comfortable to wear.

If you've never used a thumb palette of any kind before then you'll really find it a treat to have everything you need right there directly next to your clients nails as you work.

I also love that I no longer need to focus on my hand being in the same position for a few minutes just incase the colours merge into each other like my original thumb palette.

This little gadget really is a must for every nail artist.  It's madness to think that this essential item hasn't been created years ago even!

At the moment Sarah tells me that the Ring Thing is so popular since it's launch that it sells out before they come in at the moment so she often doesn't get the chance to list it in their Etsy store.  She is doing pre-orders through via the message facility on the Facebook Page so please contact her directly.  Please also note that the brilliant news is that there are now Empower Nail Art Distributors in Canada, Australia & New Zealand as well as UK & US.

NOTD: Nautical Birthday Nails

As many of you know, it is my 30th birthday soon (3rd of March) and I am going on a cruise around the Caribbean to celebrate.  Whenever I go on holiday I tend to do either blue or red nails, if you have followed me for a while you'll know that I love nautical nails in particular.  I felt that it wouldn't be right if I didn't do nautical nails for this holiday so I am really happy with what I came up with.

I wanted to incorporate the keys from MoYou London Alice Collection Plate 03 somehow into it so I chose to print it on top of the white in gold so that it didn't take away from the blue and white stripes.

The colours I used where CND Shellac in Cream Puff, Wild Fire and Indigo Frock along with Lecente Stardust Glitter in Milky Way and their Red Holographic glitter.  The other MoYou London plate I used was Sailor Collection 06 with Konad Special Polish in white.

I absolutely adore these nails, I couldn't wait to take the photos and post them to show you!!  Since I've cut them short for the holiday I think what it missing in length, makes up for them in personality!

Focusing On: CND Shellac In Beckoning Begona

Today is another 'Focusing On' post, this time with the exciting new shades from the CND Garden Muse collection.  If you've like to see my other 'Focusing On' posts - click here.

Beckoning Begona is such a beautiful shade with the prettiest shimmer so I was keen to play around with it and come up with a few design ideas for you.

I'll go from left to right of the above photo.
  • I used Lost Labyrinth and new glitter Lecente Stardust in 'Cluster' to and paint the roses.  I then added pave diamond in leaf shapes around the roses.
  • With a glitter paste of the new Lecente Stardust in 'Starlight' I painted the chevron design.

  • I used the new Lecente Cluster glitter to add a simple fade.

  • Another perfectly complementary fade with the new Lecente Baby Blue glitter.

  • Finally I painted Beckoning Begona with a negative space.  I then used Steel gaze to paint a design and added silver foil to it.
I hope you've enjoyed today's post!  If you've like to see my other 'Focusing On' posts - click here.  Don't forget to follow me on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook - or all of them!

My Work: Green With Envy

Today's post is one of the sets of nails that I did today.  Rachael and I have very similar tastes in nails so I can often just point out what I like and know that she will love it too.  As usual I show my clients anything new that I have which included the eleven new Lecente glitters which are being released at Excel tomorrow.  She squealed at basically all of them (always a good sign) and decided on one of the New World Stardust glitters in 'Earth.'

I then wanted to work into it some sort of a suggestion of a design over her enhancements so I pointed out CND Shellac in Sage Scarf and Wild Moss which Rachael liked equally so since Wild Moss has shimmer to it, we choose to use is on all nails apart from the accents to which I applied Sage Scarf to.  I then mixed a glitter paste with Lecente Stardust in 'Earth' and painted the accents on and cured.

Rachael surprised herself by choosing green as she says herself it would not be something she would imagine she would choose but she loves them!

Origins Ginger Soufflé

A while ago I went through a stage of being obsessed with anything Ginger, I couldn't get enough of the stuff.  Needless to say when I discover the Origins Ginger range I couldn't help myself and I asked for the perfume for Christmas the year before last.  I did receive it from my husband as part of a gift set along with the matching whipped body cream.

This cream is super soft and light to apply.  The fragrance is gorgeous, just like genuine ginger and also a little tiny bit like cola bottles!

To be honest, I have this body cream for the scent as its a brilliant way to later the fragrance for true lasting power however it does actually do a fairly decent job at moisturising as well.  I wouldn't say it was the most deeply moisturising treatment ever but it's definitely good enough for everyday use or for people that don't have particularly dry skin.

As to whether I'd purchase it again, I wouldn't definitely get it for someone as a gift but for myself I really do adore my Laura Mercier Body Soufflés so I would probably stick with those.

A Solution To Minor Hair Loss

This post is different from the norm but I've always wanted my blog to be an area were I share basically anything I want because maybe not now but someone, somewhere at sometime may find it useful.

I met my husband ten years ago and his hair has always been fine.  He has a lot of it but the individual strand is very thin so at certain angles he can look bald.  Coupled with the fact that he is definitely getting thin at his crown area it's finally started to bother him.  As it's only fairly minor I figured that we could find a solution for the time being the meant that the contrast of his pink toned scalp wasn't as prominent as his brown hair.

I looked at sprays that you can get for men that basically spray the skin a tone of their hair colour to help it blend but at £8 a pop I figured that there must be an alternative.  I therefore had the idea of getting the coloured version of Batiste Dry Shampoo and giving that a whirl and I must admit I'm patting myself on the back over it.  He does need to pay attention to not rub it away but for now it lightly fills the colour in and the problem area is disguised!  Bingo!

Lecente Stardust Glitter: New World Collection

This week has been full of excitement and I have to admit that I was particularly excited to show you this preview ahead of their release at Excel on Sunday.  The New World collection of Stardust glitters by Lecente oh absolutely beautiful.  I have created a video on behalf of Lecente to introduce to you each glitter, click here to watch it.

This collection was inspired by Earth tones I'm truly each and everyone of them is stunning.  I shall show you each glitter over clear, white and black.

First is Starlight which is somewhere between a pale gold and yellow shade.  It has a slightly different texture to the rest as it has a slightly larger flake.  I myself prefer the more pale gold shades so this is perfect and I can see that this glitter will be popular amongst clients.

The next glitter is Cluster which is somewhere between pink and a lilac shades.  I genuinely adore each cola from this collection both I do think that this is particularly beautiful over the pale shades for the spring/summer.  Having said that I also adore the way it tends such a deep purple over dark shades too!

This next show you it is called Aurora which is a fairly bright orange with a hint of a green gold undertone.  The she have version you can see the green gold undertone with the orange however over the white it is more of an orange and the green almost takes a step back but then what is interesting about this glitter is when you apply to a dark colour the orange completely disappears and you are left with that amazing green tone.

This next glitter is called Earth and just like the name suggests it somewhere between a green, a blue and a grey.  It's definitely a really interesting show you something different for the clients that don't want a typical pink or red glitter.

The final glitter is called Eclipse which is somewhere in between a brown and a purple.  I personally think that this one is best over the dock at shades because I simply adore the dark purple effect that it gave the black.

The above photo is all five shades over clear.  I feel like this is a good way to show to your clients because it gives them an idea as to how the colour would go on top of all the shades as you can really see how opaque the shade is.

The above photos of the new collection over that white which I think is a good way to show how it's going with transform over a light shade.

Finally the above photo shows each glitter over black so that you can really get an idea of how it will transform over dark shades.  I actually love how much each glitter changes if you compare the light to the dark colour pops I'm showing you.

I do hope that you found this post useful don't forget to follow me on Facebook to keep up-to-date with my latest posts!  If you haven't yet got your hands on the original Stardust collection - click here to feast your eyes on them - they're amazing!

MoYou London, CND & Lecente Haul

As you know, I was up at Creative Academy+ Manchester yesterday filming the CND Garden Muse collection video (click here if you missed it) Well like usual I stood staring at the stands mentally going through my stock.  There was only one thing that I needed to replace but I'll get into that later!

First up I bought CND Vinylux in Blue Rapture.  I did manicures for a baby shower on Sunday and as I looked through my collections I realised that I only had dark blues so I picked this up as a brighter alternative.  I have to say I'm loving Vinylux right now.  I actually didn't get into it until last summer but I've just it quite a bit since then.

Next up is the replacement I was referring to earlier, I swear I've thrown my Lecente Stardust Glitter in Neptune in the bin.  Yes you can recoil in horror at that thought, just like I do when I think of it but I'm sure it that that's somehow what I've done.  Although I now have a replacement tub I'm hoping that I'm mistaken and I end up with two tubs if the first one appears.  I had to buy a new one or I would have pined for it!

The other two glitters I bought with Blue Gun Metal and New York, just because I fancied them and certainly not because I need any more glitter...!  I'm excited to wear them on my own nails actually!

I was a big fan of Dashing Diva.  Admittedly I wasn't as keen on the full coverage ones as they were more fiddly but gave a good effect.  It seems that the collection is being condensed at the Academy so they did have excess stock which was half price so I picked up two packs of their Accents which are my Favourite and fuss-free.

Onto the MoYou London plates that I couldn't resist.  The academy have just received new plates into their stock which I saw a message about it on Friday so I was excited to be up there the next working day for "for dibs" of them.  I choose Sailor Collection 06 because I really like the other one I have from that collection and this is an extension of that.

The other plate I purchased was Suki Collection 05 which was just because I find the patterns really interesting.  I do prefer full prints rather than random images.  I can't imagine there being much call for the geisha looking woman in the bottom left corner but the rest are good.

I hope you've enjoyed reading my nail supply haul.  Obviously nothing essential, just totally for funsies.  Is it crazy that I enjoy putting new fun supplies away in their new homes?!  Don't answer that!

The names of the new Shellac shades are:

In Vinylux, alongside the matching shades are Crushed Rose and Reflecting Pool.  In the video I also compare those two to the existing line.

New Lecente Glitters For Spring/Summer 2015

So today is the day that I can finally talk about the six new colours that have been released for the spring summer with Lecente along with the New World collection of five brand new stardust glitters that I will talk about in a few days time.  I was delighted to be asked to create their introduction videos for this new collection so therefore I have had these for over a week now, I've had to keep my mouth shut and not show you which is been so difficult because they are all stunning!  Click here to watch the video!!

There are two iridescent glitters, two ultra fine glitters and two multi glitz glitters.  The iridescent line is their translucent glitter that changes depending on the colour underneath.  The ultra fine range is their precision cut glitter for the perfect sparkle and the multi glitz collection has a rainbow of different glitters for the ultimate sparkle.

Lecente Iridescent Glitter in 'Baby Pink'

The first glitter is from the iridescent range and it's called 'Baby Pink.'  Just as the name suggests this is a baby pink shade, if you do want to achieve this then you would pair it with a similar shade underneath.  The special thing about this glitter and the next one that I'm going to show you is that it completely transforms when it's over a dark shade which you can see in the above and below photo.

Lecente Iridescent Glitter in 'Baby Blue'

The next glitter is the order iridescent glitter and it's called baby blue.  I must admit I do think that this has got quite a lot of a lilac tone to it but once again just like baby pink It would look good with a matching shade lighter shade but then look completely different with the darker shades.

Lecente Ultra Fine Glitter in 'Tiffany'

Now onto the two ultra fine glitters.  The first one is called Tiffany and just as you would imagine this is the perfect Tiffany blue shade.  The sparkle of this one is simply stunning you can see on the video that I produced for Lecente, it really is a stunning shade.

Lecente Ultra Fine Glitter in 'Pewter'

The other ultra fine glitter and is called Pewter and again this is a grey shade.  This sort of colour always makes me feel like it would be good for our party or a special event.  Of course to me, this is an every day appropriate shade - as are the rest of them!

Lecente Multi Glitz Glitter in 'Goddess'

Next up are the two multi glitz glitters.  The first one is Goddess which has mainly greens and blues but definitely also has red in it.  The truth is it's really hard to pinpoint a particular shade as there truly are so many in it but believe me, when you see it your eyes will dance!

Lecente Multi Glitz Glitter in 'Sugar Lips'

The final new glitter is called Sugar Lips which I must admit, does make me giggle a little and I'm not entirely sure why.  Again because this glitter has so many colours in it it's hard to pick out the keys ones bit it does have an undertone of purple in it I think!

The photos below are the swatches I've mentioned in order both over white and black for you to see.  I do hope you've found this post useful.  Don't forget to follow my Facebook page to keep up to date with everything I'm doing and New World Stardust Collection video should be up soon on the Lecente You Tube channel for you to see.  All glitters will be lauched at Excel next Sunday!
