Slim Down Sunday: Week 6

This week started on a high as I just couldn't believe that I had lost 3 and 1/2 pounds last week.  I've had a couple of requests to explain the slimming world plan so if you'd like to read my explanation of it, click here.  


I must say that this past week or so I have actually been almost combining two different weight loss methods.  I stick to the principles of slimming world in terms of mainly eating free foods, I have my measurement of fibre and dairy as they specify and I try to keep to the syn value allowed.  The bit that means that I'm following something else is that more and more I'm finding that I'm actually counting the calories, this is something that Slimming World do not teach you to do but I do know from previous experience that if you literally take the "free food" concept to the limit that you may not lose much weight per week from that so this is where I've basically introduced myself to a calorie controlled plan but eating "good food" as per Slimming World.  
 
It was something originally that I was dubious about trying because I've never counted calories before (okay I'm laughing in my head at that comment - obviously I've never counted calories or I would be thin!) but I figured if it doesn't give me the results that I want, I would just return to Slimming World the following week, however it seems to have been working very well for me because in some instances as though I'm keeping to the principles mainly, if something that I want to eat is a little over what they allow then I will simply look at it from my calorie counting points of view instead and then I feel like that's giving me a lot of freedom.


The two meals above or actually from the Gousto menu which are lamb meatballs and beef tagliatelle, both of which contain one or two ingredients that would've needed to be synned on  Slimming World.  I spoke to the lovely Alex who is the lady who's lost over 8 stone by calorie counting and she is slowly trying to teach me that although these items may contain fat, it's good fat so this is where in my mind, I forget SW for a second and look at my overall calories for the day which I am typical always under for (thanks to the My Fitness Pal app!)

Wow I hope I'm not making this all sound confusing?!  In my mind it makes perfect sense and I've been really happy doing it, if it stops working, I will be straight back onto Slimming World exclusively. 


My general food menu this week has been anything with broccoli.  I want to make sure that I am getting at least some vegetables into my diet so brocoli has been it and I believe, a big reason for last weeks loss.  


As luck would have it, my husband mentioned that there are a few ladies in his work that go to Slimming World classes so I asked him if he thought one of them would be able to get me their Hi-fi bars.  Two of their small bars is equal to your fibre for the day and although I love my Alpen light, I have to admit that these are by far the best to have.  


Fast forward to Wednesday and I made a decision that, as I was so near to the stone bracket below that I would buy are really nice present for myself that would sit in my living room until I hit that goal.  My husband and I went over to the Trafford Centre and I treated myself to Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Body Creme.  It's a small fortune but I deserve it - there, I've said it.  

Whilst we were there I looked at the time and realised that we needed to get something to eat.  This is always a little bit of a worry for me now because I don't want to go off plan so I know that I need to choose wisely.  I knew that there was a Wetherspoons there so I decided to head over to there with the intention of choosing their sweet chilli noodles with chicken which is low calorie.  Unfortunately their menu is a lot smaller there and they do not do them, so I was left to try and figure out a different option.  I opted for steak and asked my husband to ask the server if I could have a jacket potato instead of chips.  Unfortunately however they did not offer jacket potatoes at that Wetherspoons so I was really proud of myself because I then asked for a load of vegetables instead.  Trust me when I say that this is not how I normally am - The old me would've just figured "oh well you've tried Karen, have the chips, it's not your fault" but the new me is determined to reach her goals.


One of my friends suggested getting Cadbury's Freddos to melt with fruit and having what she called "a poor mans fondue."  Hilariously I bought from Freddos with that intention in mind but so far I've only managed to unwrap them and just eat them - within my allowance for the day, of course.


On Friday I got ready without too much thought, although I realised that my jeans were a little big.  It was only when I returned and actually looked in the mirror that I realised how baggy they are now.  What I hold the jeans tight you can see how big they were, it's borderline hilarious and I'm pleased but also a bit sad that I won't be able to wear them anymore.  I know that's really silly but when I find things I like I'll wear them to death!


So onto the bit that I'm guessing you all want to know, the weigh in.  I have to say I was quietly confident that I had definitely shifted some pounds this week.  I know it's naughty both I did jump on the scales a couple of times through the week so I was a little bit excited.  So the question is, is the Jo Malone mine this week? You're damn right!  This week I've lost 3lbs, bringing me to a total loss of 19.5lbs in six weeks!  I'm now in the top end of the next stone bracket now, this is a long road to where I want to be and I always knew it was going to be (or I wouldn't be making such a big deal out of it dedicating a section of my blog to it) but I know I can do this and my method of combining the two theories is working great both for my body as well as not limiting me.  Hopefully I'll be a little bit lighter again for the next update!
 
Things to remember: 
  • Every day we have a choice, it's a fresh start and the most important part from any healthy eating plan is to just try and make as many days, good ones.
  • Losing a pound a week is still over three and a half stone in a year!
  • If you're feeling particularly down about your weight, remember that if you stick to a balanced diet then by this time next week you could have dropped quite a few pounds, just the kick start you need to get going!  Even just by cutting down on treats you could make a difference, how good would that feel?!
