NOTD: Golden Peach

Okay it's not quite peach but I couldn't think of a better title for this one.  I'm going on holiday today.  I'm off for a fortnight going to the States visiting San Francisco, Las Vegas, LA & Palm Springs.  The truth is I will always pick red nails, every single time but I fight the urge.  I've hacked them all day to minimise the risk of them catching and ripping, as I always do and I had in my mind that I wanted some sort of peach with a golden shimmer but as always, who knows what I'll end up with!

I chose one of the newest CND Shellac shades in Pink Pursuit.  I really do think this has such a peach type of pink so I teamed it up with Lecente Stardust Glitter in Milky Way for my middle finger only, I wore it alone on my thumb and little finger and then wore CND Shellac in Safety Pin on the index and ring finger to make a little different.  Finally I took another one of Sascha Gossen Yours stamping plates and stamped over every nail with a pretty fine detailed print.

These nails aren't typical of me at all, they're a little more subtle than my usual style but it makes a change and I quite like how neutral they are.  Don't forget to follow my Facebook page for future updates!  I'm also on Instagram & Twitter - @liverpoollashes

Slim Down Sunday: Week 50

Week 50, wow!  Who knew that I would still be here 50 weeks on, I know when I started this I genuinely didn't know how many months I would still actively be thinking about my weight.  I feel like although I class myself as currently failing miserably at weight loss, I will take every achievement and celebrate it.  For a long time I have pushed the unhappiness of being fat to the back of my mind so despite struggling more recently, I am proud that I continue to acknowledge it and bring it back to the front of my mind.

This week has been a mixed one, some days I've been pretty good and some days I've thrown the rule book away and eaten as I please.  The above photo is food I had on a road trip I did, normally I would bring all kinds of convieniece food and sweets so I had to take a photo of the fresh fruit I happily munched on instead as I was proud!

Next week I am travelling around the States for a fortnight so I cannot predict how things will go but the probability is I will return heavier.  I shall try and blog next Sunday but this is all internet connection depending!  I didn't weigh myself this morning, not even going to lie about it but I shall see the overall damage on my return and I hope that by then I'll be keen to get back on it properly and get past my lowest recent weight.

Slim Down Sunday: Week 49

The struggle continues on so many levels but it is slowly getting better.  This week I can proudly say that the binge eating has been a lot less.  I've taken myself out of situation.  I'm so ashamed of some of the things I've done recently that I honestly don't think I would even write them here but I've eaten a lot in secret, put it that way.

I've tried my best to have decent meals, satisfying meals with a good tasty breakfast to help start the day right.

The key to controlling your weight is definitely to enjoy what you're eating and be busy, too much time on your hands means you have those spare minutes to raid the cupboards or fridge.

I am determined to not carry on this battle forever, it will always be something that will need to be never too far away from my mind but I just don't want it to be a struggle for the rest of my life.

I go on holiday in just over a week.  Previously I have been able to follow a healthy eating plan abroad but I was in a self catering situation.  This time it will be eating out in the States so this concerns me but I can only try my best.

I did weigh myself this morning which in proud of as I'm now back into the habit with at least monitoring it.  I'm pleased to say that once again I have not lost weight but, more important, I have not gained any.  Emotionally I am in the eye of the storm and I have a lot further to go but I will continue to ride the storm.
  • Every day we have a choice, it's a fresh start and the most important part from any healthy eating plan is to just try and make as many days, good ones.
  • Losing a pound a week is still over three and a half stone in a year.
  • If you're feeling particularly down about your weight, remember that if you stick to a balanced diet then by this time next week you could have dropped quite a few pounds, just the kick start you need to get going!  Even just by cutting down on treats you could make a difference, how good would that feel?!

NOTD: Purple & Pink Sparkles

After wearing the new CND Creative Play (click here for the review) for the past week it was time to get back to my semi-permanent colour with CND Shellac.  I had nothing in particular that I fancied on my nails so I just decided on purple tones with a hint of pinky purple and sparkles.

The products I used were CND Shellac in Rock Royalty, Nordic Lights, Wisteria Haze, Beckoning Begonia, Lecente Iridescent Glitter in Baby Blue and Yours Stamping Plate by Sascha Gossen.

On my thumb, index and little fingers are Rock Royalty with the gorgeous Nordic Lights are it which if I'm honest, hasn't been used as much as it should have done so I aim to promote it more.  My middle finger is Beckoning Begonia with the stamping plate over it using Konad Special Polish in Black.  Finally my ring finger is Wisteria Haze with Lecente Glitter in Baby Blue over it.

I love Beckoning Begonia anyway but I think it fits it well with the other colours giving a really interesting effect.  I hope you've enjoyed this post, don't forget to follow my Facebook Page for all the latest reviews, nail design ideas and tutorials.  I'm also on Instagram and Twitter - @liverpoollashes

CND™ Creative Play™ Nail Lacquer

I've been so excited to talk about the new CND Creative Play Nail Lacquers launching 9th May 2016.  Sweet Squared kindly sent me a few prior to the launch for me to trial them and tell you my thoughts.

The moment CND Creative Play was mentioned I read quite a few nail techs asking whether it would replace Vinylux which of course it isn't, it has been created in addition to Vinylux to cater for every different client requirement.
  • Creative Play is your traditional short wear nail lacquer
  • Vinylux is your long wear nail lacquer
  • Shellac is your semi-permanent colour.
Creative Play is specifically aimed at the type of client that wants to change their colour as they change their mood.  It's also perfect for the type of client who can't necessary have a more long lasting service for work or their lifestyle so it means there is an exciting option for them also.

The range consists of 80 bright shades across 10 different finishes which are cream, metallic, multi-colour glitter, holographic glitter, shimmer, pearl, satin, metallic glitter, transformer and micro glitter.  Although the colours aren't designed to match Vinylux or Shellac, personally I do think you could get a similar match on a few of them if clients wanted different systems on their fingers and toes.

CND have ensured that each bottle features an advanced brush design.  It has approximately 400 bristles which make the application smooth and precise, I found it really easy to control.

Creative Play is a three system which you apply one layer of base coat, two layers of colour and one layer of top coat after P.E.P.  I really like that the base coat is a milky tone as this works to blank out the clients nail bed a little therefore giving the colour coats a brighter appearance as well as masking any clients who may have a particularly brighter free edge which can sometimes show through other nail polishes.

Each bottle contains 13.6ml of product.  The base coat should give you 100 applications, the colour coats should be 60 applications/ 30 services per bottle and the top coat should give 56 applications.

The shade above is called Royalista and is as stunning in real life as it is on camera.  I was impressed with how quickly each layer dried.  You are to apply thin layers but the base coat was extremely fast, I would say that both the colour coats and top coat were very nearly completely touch dry by the time I got back to the first nail that I painted, although I allowed another few moments before applying the second coat and then finishing with the top coat.  Creative Play is removed using CND Nourishing Remover or Acetone which I did with minimal effort.

Creative Play also work well with nail stamping.  The shade "Polish My Act" is a silver metallic that is so highly pigmented that it's perfect for stamping and when I applied it to the nail it was pretty much full coverage with one coat.

My overall thoughts are that I really like this new range.  At first, if I'm brutally honest I thought I had everything I needed with Vinylux and Shellac but I really like the Creative Play formula, the colour range and the fact that it still dries at such a quick drying time with a glossy finish to the point that I would will to get a few more when they launch as I know the red would be constantly on my toes.  Obviously trade prices are kept for professional eyes only (see your distributor) but it wipes the floor with other professional brands with a potential for you to retail to your clients too.  CND Creative Play is definitely one to check out for yourselves!

Slim Down Sunday: Week 48

So I technically started back eating proper food on Tuesday and it feels betters to be in a routine again.  I actually really enjoy my low calorie meals, nothing is ever a chore to eat but it's the temptation of snacking that I have the greatest problem with.

At the moment as I'm carrying extra weight I do feel bloated and my tummy definitely jiggles more than it did at the start of the year which is horrible.  The pressure I put myself on to keep at this is immense and sometimes I can't handle it.  I need a certain amount of pressure so that I'm not 19 stone five again but it's still very difficult for me.

I think the binge eater I was will never actually go away, this week I ate two packs of biscuits, that's just me being honest with you.  Although I've definitely done a lot better than previous weeks I still have gone off plan sometimes which of course I later hugely regret.

So the biggest thing this week was addressing my weight and getting into the habit of weighing myself again.  Honestly I knew it would be a miracle if I had progressed and I haven't, I'm just as I was at the end of the week but I'm proud of acknowledging and starting again and I will continue logging on the My Fitness Pal app.  Hopefully I shall have a good week!

The Solution To Taking Photos Of Your Own Nails

I have heard so many people say that they get their partner, friend or children to take their nail photos for them.  That's fantastic for those people but I am ridiculously picky and being the diva that I am, I want them to just magically know how I like the photo taken, it needs to be a certain way or it will drive me mad!  Side note: I recognise that I am displaying "control freak" qualities here but I'm sure many know exactly what I mean!

I know one lady who used to take fantastic photos of her own nails using the timer on her phone, various different objects to balance it over her hands and take them herself but everytime I did it it was an epic fail because the phone would create a shadow or it was often tip over onto my hand.

When you're not looking for solutions you often find them and I was mooching around Primark a few days ago and noticed that they sold something called a "Lazy Arm" for £4.  I always see gadgets like this and dismiss them immediately as the fact that it's called "lazy" just told me I didn't need it until I thought about it properly.

liverpoollashes lazy arm primark the solution to taking photos of your own nails

This bad boy is designed to hold any phone with a strong flexible cord that has a sturdy bulldog style clip to clamp to a desk or other thin surface.  It works fantastically clipped to my nail desk because I can happily play with the angles easily by bending the arm as I want it without having to faff about balancing it somewhere, therefore giving me the exact photo I wanted.  Honestly this thing should be about £10 and I know elsewhere it would be easily more but at £4 it's a must for nail techs!  Mine is black but you could get a pink one in my local Primark.  On the plus side, I will often bring into in the house and use it to hold my phone whilst I watch You Tube videos whilst chilling on my reclining chair....!!  I shall also admit that it's fantastic to clip onto my bedside chest whilst I lie in bed watching films so it's definitely multi-use!

If you don't have a Primark near you then if you search online for 'lazy arms' I have noticed they're available elsewhere.  I hope this helps!  Don't forget to follow my Facebook page for future updates!  I'm also on Instagram and Twitter - search for @liverpoollashes

Slim Down Sunday: Week 47

I realise it's not Sunday and that's fine, this post is going up now as now I'm ready to write it.  If you've read the past few posts you'll know I'm struggling, I have a lot on my mind and healthy eating hasn't been one of them.  I've avoided the scales, I knew that if I looked at the number they said it may make me worse so I didn't.  I also knew that if I didn't look soon that it would get seriously out of hand.

It seems mad to have such a struggle against yourself but I decided to start again back with eating well again on Tuesday (yesterday.)  It may not have been noticeable to anyone else but to me I could see I had put on weight and my face was starting to be more rounded again.  I weighed myself and I was 15 stone 4, my lowest weight was 14 stone so since January I had put on 18lbs but I know that that isn't the end of the world. I have lost weight at a decent rate in this past year, I will do it again.

Now that I've weighed myself and faced the numbers I know where I'm starting off at and where I'm heading towards.  I went to Asda and stocked up on all of the low calorie meals that I love and I'm back trying my best at the gym every weekday morning.

Thankfully I can feel my attitude has changed back to where I was and I feel like weight loss is once again possible.  Unfortunately I am going to the States in a few weeks but whatever I can do up until that point is a bonus.  At this point I am in my second day of calorie counting and I'm already starting to feel better about myself.  I shall be back on Sunday with my usual update!
