Slim Down Sunday 2017: Week 4

I have to be honest, by the time it comes to my weigh in day I do get that urge to just want to eat a normal meal. I say a normal meal, you know that I mean one that I don't need to count any calories or any points or anything, literally just eat what I want.  I don't feel like it's that bad to do that because sometimes you just want to feel the release of no limitations and then you can get straight back to it.  That's what I did last Sunday afternoon and that's what you're looking at with the first photo.  It was a cheese and onion pie with chips gravy and mushrooms and I absolutely enjoyed it so much!

So here is how my week has been.  After starting the week with a pub lunch I was ready to get back on it and start losing more weight.   As I said last week, although I only lost half a pound it was still a step in the right direction however I did want to up it this week because I want to get closer to a comfortable weight, quicker.  As I now live in south Wales with my boyfriend Rich, I do find it really difficult being home with him when it comes to eating because he has (and admits to) struggling in the evening with constantly snacking and of course if he picks something I quite fancy then it's hard for me to resist as well.  This week however, Tuesday and Wednesday I was back up north and when I'm on my own I do find it a lot easier to stay in control.  I suppose it's the old thing about being comfortable in a relationship.

I tried my best to make sure that Tuesday and Wednesday really made a difference to my weight loss this week and by the start of the weekend I could really feel a change in my body.  It might not be noticeable for anybody else but to me my stomach feels a lot flatter and a little bit more toned.  I walk with a little bit more ease so I felt that I must've lost something.

So I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 3 1/2 pounds this week!  That brings me to a 7 pounds loss in three weeks.  Honestly I know that I could of been a little bit better last week and that would've made the total loss a little bit greater but I am so delighted to know I'll be on my way to getting back to where I was last year.  It's amazing how 7 pounds can start to make you feel better, happier, more comfortable.  Half a stone off now, here's to me heading further down the 16 stone mark this week coming and then excitingly back into the 15s again!

  • Every day we have a choice, it's a fresh start and the most important part from any healthy eating plan is to just try and make as many days, good ones.
  • Losing a pound a week is still over three and a half stone in a year.
  • If you're feeling particularly down about your weight, remember that if you stick to a balanced diet then by this time next week you could have dropped quite a few pounds, just the kick start you need to get going!  Even just by cutting down on treats you could make a difference, how good would that feel?!

Slim Down Sunday 2017: Week 3

Well here we go for another week.  It feels good to be doing this again, yes I still feel a little bit like a bowling ball and I don't like my current round face but the relief of knowing that I'm just talking about it but actually doing it is fantastic.

I'm not even going to lie the start of the week was a little bit laid back.  I don't deny myself on weigh in days and relax quite a bit.  I didn't used to be like that at the start but now I think that if I don't allow myself a little bit then I will go crazy.

One find for this week has been the Fruit Foams.  As they are sugar-free that means that they are low in calories and if you follow weight watchers they are fairly low in points (4 SP.)  although I prefer chocolate to jellies they are good if you do want a sugar boost (only without the sugar but you get me!)

Although I have been an awful lot better than previously and I have not binge eating at all this week, I knew that each day I have eaten a little over what I should've been and in the back of my mind I knew that that would mean the scales which show that.

Another delicious treats that I found this week was the Muller Light blackcurrant and liquorice.  Probably not for everyone but these are so nice and have just been released.

So here it is today I weighed in and I have lost half a pound.  This isn't much at all but I know that it is more important that I am doing something about it and no matter how it takes that I continue it.  obviously next week I really want to put more of a focus on making sure I am within the boundaries I've set myself.  I am still happy as I do feel a lot less bloated and a little bit more comfortable in my clothes.  I will do this.

What Is Scentsy? / Becoming An Independent Scentsy Consultant

I thought it made the most sense for me to put this blog post together to explain the question that I get asked so many times which is "what is Scentsy?"  It's a fair enough question, Scentsy was founded in 2004 but it has only been around in the UK for about five years.  I think the easiest way to explain it is to show you so here is my video explaining "what is Scentsy"

Click here to view my website and order.

  • 85+ fragrances.
  • All products are gluten, toxin and cruelty free
  • No soot, lead, smoke or flames
  • Our wax bars are made from food grade paraffin wax.
In short, if you're a candle lover or someone who enjoys fragrance then you will adore Scentsy.  I honestly feel so confident in saying that to you.  The quality of their warmers is absolutely fantastic.  I have created videos to show some of the ones I have up close and the detail speaks for itself.

I get asked quite often how it compares to a certain well established American brand and my reply to that is that they both have a wide range of fragrances, in my opinion Scentsy wax cubes fragrance lasts a lot longer than the brand's wax tarts and we are more than half the price.  Also their tarts are designed to be used with a tealight burner, burning wax to a high temperature rather than warming wax like Scentsy Warmers do means that the fragrance is realised a lot quicker and of course, any flame carries a lot more risk than an electric device that only warms the wax to body temperature.

I do have a Facebook group and a Facebook page so please do come and join those to keep up-to-date with the latest products.  You can order directly through my website here which will then deliver directly to you.

Why I became an Independent Scentsy Consultant
Now I want to talk to you about why I decided to become a Scentsy consultant because it is something that I think a lot of fragrance lovers would love to do.  I became a Scentsy Consultant, purely to fulfil a dream I had.  I have said this in a previous post but back in 2015 I looked into and invested a lot of money to create my own wax melts but the standards surrounding the packaging changed and it meant that things were making it more and more difficult to do as I wanted.  I love candles, I love fragrance so that itch that I had for it all just never went away.  I finally decided to join Scentsy as a consultant so that I could share it with my friends, family and clients.  Generally my beauty business is a female predominant client base so it fits so well as it's generally us ladies who enjoy a lovely smelling home as well!

Joining Scentsy
When you join Scentsy you have to join under a "sponsor."  This person basically acts as a big sister or brother to you, helping you through starting up your new business, placing your orders, answer any queries and much more.  I joined under one of my followers funny enough.  Joanne who has helped me through and answered my ridiculous amount of questions.  The more I learnt about the brand - although I had been a customer for three years - the more I thought "I would love a team of my own and be a big sister to others."  I just love helping people, I love motivating people and I love helping businesses and I feel like my experience with social media and brand building really helps give a huge head start on that.

"I'm not a sales person"
You might say to yourself that "I am not a sales person" and do you know what? Neither am I!  Think of it this way, let's say a friend asks you what is your favourite mascara is and you tell them the name, how good it is with giving your lashes volume, that it doesn't flake on you... the list goes on as you stand there talking about your beloved mascara.  So of course what happens then? Your friend goes to by it and the brand make some money from your recommendation.  When a product is a good product it ultimately sells itself, if you genuinely love it and know that others will too then just talking about it is enough.  That is literally what I'm doing as I know that candle hoarders and fragrances lovers like me will love it.

"I'm not sure I could go and do a party at someone's house"
You don't have to!  We are a direct selling company so it does involve placing orders but how you take those orders is up to you!

  • You can choose quite a few options to take your orders, you could do a 'basket party' which literally means you would lend your party testers, order forms and catalogues to someone to take into their work with them (let's say a big office) that person would then let everyone sniff them, collect all of the orders and bring them back to you to process.  Perhaps you know a business such as a hairdressers that would take the basket for a week and collect the orders that way.
  • You could host an online party via Facebook which just involves a little planning but is pretty straight forward.
  • If you have your own business then simply just displaying a warmer or diffuser is enough to spark an interest when they see how fantastic they are.
  • Also customers can place their own orders via your website that will be delivered directly to them and you would offer great customer service and advice to help them along with providing them with samples etc.

"What happens if I changed my mind after joining"
If you haven't placed an order within the previous three months then your Scentsy account will be deactivated.  There's no fees or charges to pay.  I say this, not because it's likely but because that was the question I asked straight away before I joined and felt better that I wasn't tied into some sort of contract.

I wanted to write this post as today is my one month anniversary with Scentsy and at present I have three lovely consultants as part of my team who are all beauty therapists and enjoying showing their friends, family and clients our brand.  As a self employed therapist myself it's nice to be part of a team with something so exciting and fun and I genuinely enjoy helping them with ideas and social media images as well as (hopefully) inspiring them with it.  As I have said from the start to anyone who joins, it's your business, I'm not here to push you into sales and pressurise you - no one wants that.  I'm happy for you to run your Scentsy business as you choose and I'm just here to help you get started, keep you updated and as a support network in my team's secret Facebook group who are all lovely and happy to help each other.

I know this sounds cheesy but hear me out here, now is a fantastic time to join Scentsy (go on, ask me why) The reason is Scentsy is only a baby in terms of brands in the UK, we aren't saturated with so many that everyone knows someone who is a consultant so it means that we have more ears to spread the word to!

If you are thinking about joining as a consultant in my team or would like any more information, you're welcome to message or email me (liverpoollashes@yahoo.co.uk) If you would like to join - click here!

Let me finish with this, Julia Moran, a good friend and director of Creative Academy Manchester sent me this video when I first told her about wanting to produce my own wax melts and I feel like it's perfect for all new businesses.  The message is strong, follow your dreams.  I've watched this video too many times to count but it's so true.

Finally (and I nearly forgot to say this...!)  I have made a new You Tube Channel just for my Scentsy stuff so if you'd like to subscribe for more videos - click here.

NOTD: Muted Purples & Gold

I loved my last set of nails I did, if you remember it was the new CND Shellac in Blue Eyeshadow and my mix of Lecente Multi Glitz Glitter in Silver Holographic and their regular Silver Holographic.  Anyway, they'd grown out and were starting to look not so good so it was time for a change.  I think because the blue is so gorgeous and vibrant, I really fancied something a little low-key.

Eventually I decided on two colours I've never actually worn and typically very rarely have I ever had clients choose them either.  They are CND Shellac in Lavender Lace and Vexed Violette.  I paired these with Black Pool and Safety Pin with limited edition Lecente Glitter in Sleigh Bells (Sand is a close alternative.)

Im really happy with how these turned out, I purposely didn't want any patterns or designs on them as I just really fancied them plain so that's what I went with!!

Slim Down Sunday 2017: Week 2

At the end of the last post I hadn't been feeling too good.  I think I was suffering from some sort of chest infection over New Year but thankfully that's gone.  It did however help my weight loss this week because after a few mouthfuls I struggled to eat any more - every cloud and all of that!  Most of the photos of food in this post I didn't finish but I tried to keep everything delicious.

I was so strong at the start of the week and within a few days I started to feel so much better about myself. It's amazing what those few days of cutting back can do to you.  Unfortunately I did get on the scales in a sneaky weigh in which I totally know not to do but I did it anyway.  I had lost a few pounds even then so that's when I did something stupid and got relaxed about it all.  I was then vaguely counting my calories rather than properly doing it.

This week was the week I went back up north for a few days but I was still able to keep to my plan which makes things so much easier.  I've been drinking flavoured water - yes I know it's not the same as pure water but give me a break - I'm a fatty after all so this is a breakthrough!!!

It is definitely true that it helps to keep busy.  I've had a lovely week as I welcome three new members into my team of Scentsy Consultants.  I genuinely love helping them and by doing that it's kept my mind busy but also off food.  I'll speak more about that another time.

I must admit I was very nervous about this week's weigh in as I knew I was going off track but I'm pleased to say that I lost 3lbs!  That brings me to 16 stone 13lbs and therefore, I am back into the 16s again.  It's such a relief, yes I'm still far too heavy but I'm in that stone bracket now that I can work through that.  I'll be so happy when I get into the lower end of the 16s again, it will feel so good and then of course I'll be into the 15s again and that's when it gets really exciting.

I'm looking forward to being confident in summer clothes this year, 2016 I was starting to hide again, cover my stomach with a cushion if I sat down, anything to hide my bulging tummy.  2017 will be the year I leave that all behind me.

Slim Down Sunday 2017: Week 1

Firstly, happy new year!  I hope that you all had a good one and welcomed 2017 in with open arms.  You'll see that I have reset the clock of my weight loss diaries and I'm starting again at week one.  I figured that if I keep dwelling on my five stone accomplishments back in 2015 then I'm always going to feel like a failure so I've wiped the slate clean.

So where am I up to now?  Well I weighed myself this morning and I was convince that I was would 18 stone something, I felt so sure of it that I could put money on it.  I was pleasantly surprised (but still disgusted) to be 17 stone 2lbs.  I think I've gotten to the point where as sharing my weight publically doesn't even effect me anymore, I'm happy to share my rolls of fat with your eyeballs so you might as well know you'll pull your back out if you tried to give me a piggyback as well.  I am relieved to be in the lower end of 17s as I know I can get quickly back into the 16 stone bracket.  Having started my original journey at 19 stone 5lbs I am incredibly happy that I have not put the whole five stone 5lbs that I had lost, back on.

As I've mentioned previously, my boyfriend Rich is a Weight Watcher coach and runs 7 classes a week in South Wales.  It's lovely seeing the members come in and achieving their goals but it equally kills a little part of me that wants to be sharing their joy with my own weight loss.  Something life has taught me over the past year is that you can't just wish for something, you have to make it happen.

For the past few days I haven't been very well.  I actually haven't been well for probably ten days really, really bloated, stomach is hard etc and I've figured it's because of the amount I was eating of really unhealthy food and my body was overloaded with it.  For the past few days I've felt a little short of breath and tired so I've not felt like eating at all.  I have been taking cold and flu tablets (although I hate taking tablets so you know it's bad when I'm actually agreeing to it!) just to try and get myself better again.  This has however naturally kickstarted my weight loss as my appetite has been reduced and I woke up this morning and started drinking water (flavoured water but still, one step at a time!)

I wanted to tell you my weight loss goals because everything everywhere says for you to write your goals down:
  • I aim to see the top end of the 15 stone mark by mid February.  I'm 17 stone 2 now so that means I need to loose a little more then 16lbs in 6 weeks.  I tend to have fairly big losses when I stick to my food schedule so I know this is possible.
  • I aim to therefore be mid 15s by my birthday (3rd March)
  • I want to get back into my size 16 clothes, all of which have not seen the light of day in months apart from the pieces that are extremely generous.
  • I want to be able to walk again without getting out of breath.
  • I want to be able to put my socks on without the slight difficulty I have now, embarrassing as that may be.
  • I want my collarbones back.
  • I want my arms to become toned again and less like the rippled texture they currently are.
  • I want to walk into situations and feel confident that I'm not being judged for my size as I am the same as everyone else and no longer stand out for the wrong reasons.
  • I want to allow photos to be taken of myself again, I am back to insisting no photos are taken as I know how bad I look.  Every selfie is a clever angle to hide my round face.
  • I want for the next flight I go on that the tray table will definitely fit, the flight in December found me jamming the tray into myself to eat my meal.  It wasn't quite as bad as it used to be as the belt fit me but the tray table not having a gap between it and myself was upsetting.
  • I want to be back to 14 stone something by June, if not sooner.  I realise 14 stone to some is still huge but when I get back to where I was I can then head further down from there.

So there it all is, my current situation, my goals and I am once again going to change my life for the better.  I will never give up.  I'll see you next Sunday for my weigh in and update.
  • Every day we have a choice, it's a fresh start and the most important part from any healthy eating plan is to just try and make as many days, good ones.
  • Losing a pound a week is still over three and a half stone in a year.
