Today's post is all about the eagerly awaited ProTipClips. They have been demonstrated for the first time in the UK yesterday at Olympia Beauty by their sole UK distributor, Sweet Squared. I have filmed a demonstration, if you'd like to watch that it's here and at the end of this post.
The idea behind these ingenious little devices is that you use them with cotton wool and remover or acetone for the removal of all types of nail enhancements.
Here's my initial thoughts...
- The waste costs would be reduced due to no longer purchasing disposable removal wraps/ foil wraps. With my method you literally just need 5 standard cotton pads and the remover or acetone.
- The grip and perfect design means with you're more 'active' clients (aka, wriggly!) they will stay attached and secure. I definitely find that foil is constantly loosening when they're moving as they talk or bend their fingers which gives you a less effective removal.
- They look completely professional both with the packaging as well as the clips themselves and are extremely sturdy in a chunky structure.
I wanted to show you a couple of close ups of the design for you to see. The clips are completely acetone proof so you can no worries about it rotting the plastic.
The metal clip that you can see on the photo below can be removed and adjusted but so far I haven't needed to do this at all.
At the base of the clip is a little ramp that your finger sits on. This gets your finger in exactly the right position so that the cotton pad covers the nail plate evenly.
The set I'm showing you is the manicure pack. This contains eight finger clips and two thumb clips which are slighter wider, as shown on the photo below.
ProTipClips can be completely sanitised and their box is extremely sturdy with a compartment for each clip to keep them neat, ready for their next use.
Below are the instructions for adjusting them which I haven't had to do once. I've also read from others that they also haven't adjusted these clips but I like that their is an option of it.
Let's talk about the process. I have found the best way to use these clips is to take five cotton rounds (many say the thicker, the better but I just use what I use for waxing.) I will cut them in half and then trim the rounded edge off to create strips as shown below.
I use Shellac Nourishing Remover in the smaller bottle. I screw the cap, cover one end of the strip of cotton over the top and tip one or two amounts onto it, depending on the size of the nail. Only one end of the strip needs to have the remover on it as the other end is going to be touching the clients skin.
I will then place the end with the remover on on top of the nail plate and fold it over the free edge, onto my client's fingertip. Once I have applied the clip, I'm ready to count down my 8 minutes!
Once my removal time is complete I will then remove the clip, keeping the cotton in place. As Shellac has such a straight forward removal process, I keep the back of the cotton pad in place on the clients finger and once I pull down the front section the Shellac has flaked away before my eyes.
As I have the cotton strip there, I will often try to use an orange stick to knock away the flakes straight into it to assist with keeping my work station tidy. I will take a little Shellac Nourishing Remover to wipe over the nail plate if needed.
Please note that the removal used for this demonstration is actually my mum's Shellac that she has had on for just over two weeks. I wanted to mention this so that you know that I used a model with the exact same scenario and wear time as your clients.
I feel like the removal process couldn't be any easier now with ProTipClips. I don't use any special cotton pads that I don't already use for my business so it's not like I need to order in certain products or anything.
The three cuts I make through all five cotton pads at once are straight forward and quick. You could do this in advance but as it's so quick I tend to do this in front of the client as I never know if they've been sneakily peeling away their Shellac (and due a telling off!) so if I will even need all five. Of course you could always have a stack of them ready in advance also.
When I do a review I like to be completely honest with my thoughts. I try and think like many of you think so that I can answer anything you thought of. As there is a matching pedicure set of ProTipClip, I thought I would see if I could find a way of getting the manicure pack to work for my toes as well.
I attempted to apply them to my toes on two occasions for good measure. The thumb version did fit my big toe so I felt quite accomplished however then it was time to try and fit the finger versions to my little toes. The long and short of it is that I actually could manage to get them on each toe but let me tell you now, the pain that they gave me trying to keep my foot completely still (one false move and it pinged off because they were so squashed up together) coupled with the fact that my toes felt like that they had a vice on them pulling them a part means that I know you simply couldn't use the manicure set on toes.
The pedicure set are, as you would expect, designed perfectly in shape to fit any clients toes. They are shorter and have narrower sides to ensure that they can be worn virtually touching each other but with complete comfort for your client.
Finally I will speak of the price. As this website is open to the public I shall not be disclosing the price on here, if you are a qualified nail technician, please contact Sweet Squared for pricing or if you're local to me, Creative Academy Manchester also stock them.
I will however say that initially I did feel like they were a few pounds more than I had anticipated. This only passed through my mind for a moment however as I truly feel like they are completely a one time only purchase. If you look after your clips then that's it for life. Apart from your nail desk I literally can't think of any other piece of equipment that will never require renewing or replacement parts at all. In terms of the environment they are so much more economical than the removal wraps that you completely dispose of as all it takes it five cotton pads for each removal - that's it!
The bottom line is, ProTipClips are fantastic. I can literally find no fault in them. I had no problem using them with a good result from the first use and I shall now be purchasing my pedicure set with immense excitement! The days of a difficult toe removal are a thing of the past!
