Slim Down Sunday: Week 3

Here I am with another update on my weight loss.  After last week's loss, I must admit I was super excited and very motivated to get on with it again this week.  In my head I'm just trying to focus on a week to week basis as I have many pounds to lose.
I saw on "Obese A Year To Save My Life" which is my new motivational program to watch that if you cut out sugar for seven days you no longer crave it.  I do believe at this point that I had virtually cracked it and literally never felt any sort of craving which is half of the battle with me.

I definitely do feel a lot different in my posture and the area around my waist I'm convinced is few inches smaller.  This is evident in a jacket that I absolutely adore.  Unfortunately I only bought it within the last two months after searching for something like it for such a long time.  As it was reduced in price when I bought it, the only size that was available that would fit at that time was the size above what I actually was however I had the button moved so that it still fits me nicely.  Now I know this sounds crazy but I love this jacket that much that I have returned back to ASOS site where I bought it from and the only size left was one that is a couple below what I am now so what I've done is I've bought it as my motivation to fit into it.  Every now and again 'm going to drag it out as a reminder that I am getting closer to my goals.

Since I have a true sweet tooth, the one thing that I've been trying to do since finding out that it takes seven days to get the addiction of sugar out of your system is to avoid the sweet treats.  Of course this is only good temporarily because the reality is that I will need to have occasional treats so that I don't end or bingeing on them at some other point.  The one thing that I tried this week was the Wispa Gold hot chocolate.  It said it had bubbles in it which I thought was laughable because obviously if you mix hot chocolate it would make bubbles but this is quite unique.  The moment you put water in it all of a sudden these bubbles that you can see in the photo appear.  The surface where all the bubbles were was really nice but have to admit that for five syns as per the Slimming World plan, I wouldn't say that that was tasty enough to have again.

I got my Gousto delivery this week which I must admit looked brilliant in the box because of all the colourful vegetables in there.  So far, as it only arrived on Friday, we have cooked a few of the meals and I've discovered that I definitely don't like lentils however I am pleased that I tried them.  I'm hopefully going to get a little bit more adventurous and if I keep trying new things, I do think that it saves you being bored of the same food over and over again.

What's been lovely is Alex, somebody that followed my Facebook page, left a comment under one of my posts a couple of weeks ago to say that she had lost over 8 stone which was amazing and she's gone on to support me via private message.  I do think that the support is key, it's such a long process that sometimes there will be stages that you just need a little bit of cheering on and since Alex has being there, she is the one of the best people to speak to.

I'm still loving the MyFitnessPal app, if you're not already friends on there then please do come send me a request I'm just 'liverpoollashes' on it.  I have actually ordered a Fitbit which I'm hoping to get soon so that I can be more motivated and do a little bit more exercise.  To be honest, I don't do very much since I work from home so it can be a little bit more difficult, I'm not really doing the steps that other people are doing or being as active at all.  For that reason I definitely need to make more of an effort and of course it will be is my metabolism.  Typically like the child that I am, I only ordered it yesterday and I really want to get it straight away but I will have to wait!

So onto the thing that is the most important, the weigh in.  I'm not even going to lie I have actually been hopping on and off the scales all week, it's so difficult because you just get curious but I do know it's naughty to do that!   For whatever reason I just had a feeling that I hadn't lost very much because the scales weren't really moving so I braced myself and hope for the best.  The results are that I lost 2 pounds this week, bringing me to a total of 11 pounds in three weeks.  I am trying to be pleased, I know many say that you need to focus on that I've lost 11 pounds in such a short space of time but it's hard to do that when you think that you should have really lost maybe three or four, particularly with the amount of effort I put in for it.  I am trying to tell myself that if I carry on going then hopefully next week will be a bigger loss. At this point though I get a little anxious when I've lost less than what I think I deserve because it's then easy to slip back into old habits and just be like "oh well I'll just eat anything I want."  Trying to look at the bigger picture I am definitely a lot happier with the 11 pounds gone and hopefully next week I will be able to say that to you that I've lost a stone.  Until then - onwards and downwards!  I actually plan to post this and get on my treadmill!
Things to remember:
  • Every day we have a choice, it's a fresh start and the most important part from any healthy eating plan is to just try and make as many days, good ones.
  • Losing a pound a week is still over three and a half stone in a year!
  • If you're feeling particularly down about your weight, remember that if you stick to a balanced diet then by this time next week you could have dropped quite a few pounds, just the kick start you need to get going!  Even just by cutting down on treats you could make a difference, how good would that feel?!

Empties: May 2015

When it comes to empties blog posts, I can never work out whether I am happy that I have finally gotten through things or that I'm gutted, particularly when it is more expensive things.  Since I'm a complete perfume addict, I obviously have an awful lot of them but as it's been getting out of hand so I've tried to focus on using some of the perfumes up,  despite me loving them and for that reason it's sort of makes me sad that I've gone through three perfumes this month - I now don't have them as an option to wear.  I realise this is totally crazy but it is the honest truth!

So I'll start off with Philosophy Luscious Lime Shower Gel.   I had wanted to try this so badly but almost begrudged paying that price for a shower gel so I was delighted at the time when my friend and my husband both bought me a bottle of it as a Christmas present.   Unfortunately when I started to use it I realised that really it was no more special than Original Source Lime shower gel so although I enjoy the smell of it, I wouldn't repurchase it.

Next up is Origins Drink Up Intensive moisture mask which I only had in a miniature version.  This moisture mask is absolutely fantastic, it really does hydrate and it smells gorgeous.  As soon as I used this little sample up, I actually went and bought the full size of it which I think is a good measurement as to how much I actually do like it.

Next I have Miss Dior Cherie which is probably the perfume I most sad about, possibly because it's the most expensive.  Someone did actually tell me that they had stopped doing this perfume and I was completely gutted but when I looked it up it was just that they now just call it Miss Dior.  This perfume is very modern but also sophisticated and I just think that it's an all round favourite of mine.  Once I have used up a lot of my perfume is I will definitely repurchase another bottle.

The next perfume is Britney Spears Midnight Fantasy which is at super sweet, very young scented perfume.  I do still like this perfume but I have to admit I have moved on to more sophisticated scents.  I do have another bottle of this that I have to use up but in terms of me buying it again, I probably would, but only for somebody else as a present.

The next perfume is by Mark Williamson which there's not really much me going over it with you because you can no longer get it.  It was a very pleasant scent and was more on the sophisticated side.

The AHA retexturising cream which is a Walgreens only brand, is absolutely fantastic.  I do have a backup of it and if you do have access to Walgreens store then I do think that it is worth picking up for the price.  It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth within a couple of hours.

Finally we have the Seventeen Miracle Matte pressed powder.   Due to the branding behind it, I must admit I didn't have very high hopes for it however this powder did work fairly well.  As I do have  oily/combination skin, I do find that the oils will eventually start coming through but this would be a good powder to have with you for the price.  I would therefore repurchase it if my Rimmel Clear Complexion wasn't available.

I do have more empty is coming shortly as I am definitely trying to work through a lot of my stash and in general reduce a lot of things down!

My Work: Navy & Red Nails

Ali came to me to get her nails done today.  It's a birthday soon and she wanted to match the outfit that she's wearing on the day.

She's been to me many times before and this time I had no brief older than that she wanted navy and red with white, ideally with spots and stripes.

The colours Ali decided on were CND Shellac in Indigo Frock and Wildfire.  I chose to MoYou Pro Collection Plate 08 which I used for all nails apart from her middle fingers which I did myself with a dotting tool.

With it having nautical colours, of course I love these nails!  With the mix of bows, dots and stripes it makes them really fun.
I hope you've enjoyed this post.  Please come and follow my Facebook Page to keep up to date with my latest posts, nail tutorials and more!

My Work: Nude, Black & Shimmers

My friend Jade came over today to have her nails done, ready for a big night out this weekend.  She had picked to have nude and black nails to match her outfit and sent me a photo beforehand of the sort of nails she liked (well actually she sent me a ton of photos and I had to remind her that she needed to pick one to actually go with, the truth be known!)

For these nails I used CND Shellac in Bare Chemise, Black Pool, Silver VIP Status (discontinued but you could use an Additive) and Ice Vapor (Limited Edition but you could mix a glitter paste) Lecente Ultra finer silver glitter, silver holographic foil and genuine Swarovski crystals in Clear SS9 and SS5.

After completely her enhancements, I painted all nails in Bare Chemise apart from Jade's ring finger which I did in Black Pool.  Her thumbs then have tiny bits of silver foil in them which I did by scrunched a piece of foil up.

Under the freehand patterned fingers is Silver VIP Status.  On her left hand I did add tiny dots of Ice Vapor on top of the design.  On the other nails I added dots going from smaller to larger and back and glitter to others.

I actually really adore these nails and more importantly, Jade does too.  I'm not usually a fan of nude shades but Bare Chemise was beautiful even with one coat.
I hope you've enjoyed reading this post!  Please make sure you're following my Facebook Page for future updates, nail tutorials and reviews.

Glitter Express Review

I don't think that there is a nail tech that doesn't love glitter so when Glitter Express contacted me about reviewing their products, of course I had to say yes and try them out for you.  That aside, as usual everything that I say is my own thoughts - I just need you to know that they were provided to me but I will always be honest.  I have made a full video review of this brand click here to watch it.

The first thing that impressed me was their shade chart.  I love the way they've done this and I actually think that I would keep hold of this to show to my clients so that they can get an idea what the finished look will be with the topcoat on.  It would also be brilliant if you were mobile as it saves carrying a ton of different colour pops!  I honestly think that every glitter company should have this because straightaway I had spied more than 15 that I would happily add to my collection!

As I say in the video, this company has manufactured for big brands including L'Oreal and Avon.  I don't consider myself to be particularly patriotic but I do like the fact that the glitter is actually made here in the UK - it's always good to support your own!

I want to point out some of my favourites that I loved on the shade charts.  Firstly (pictured above) is Blue Indigo which is a perfect mix of blues and purples.  The other two are pictured below, they are Cayman Green Hologram and Laser Blue Hologram.

The price of this glitter is really competitive and very good value for money.  It does have a slight potential downfall that I did mention in the video which is that the glitter is supplied in bags are not pots but, it depends which way you want to look at it.  I have no doubt that if they were supplied in pots they would be dearer and since I like all of my glitter still look the same, I always end up transferring them into the same style pot anyway.

I know that this is been brought up with a couple of companies recently so you can be reassured that full MSDS sheets are available along with their ingredients lists.

Here's my full review video here - I hope you enjoy it!

Sunday Slim Down: Week 2

I was keen to get started with my second week of my new food routine.  I have a lot of new things to introduce you to this week so settle down, grab yourself a Muller Light or something and let's get on with it!

First I'll start off with the discovery that Slimming World have teamed up with Iceland to create a few frozen meals.  My husband and I raced along in the hopes that some of them might have been a low syn value.

The two photos I'm showing you above are the entire range which is a shame because I would've liked to seen more but, beggars can't be choosers.  The good thing however is that everything you see in those photos are syn free!  I was completely gobsmacked.  We do try and cook from fresh but I think it's handy to have frozen foods ready too, particularly free ones!

As you can see we both a few to try out I figured I'd let you know here on my thoughts on the different ones we bought which I thought might be helpful.

The above photo is their Singapore noodles.  The portions are decent, what you're actually seeing is half one of as my husband had the other half to try out.  As someone who is an utter wimp with spices, I would say that this was as spicy as I could take.  Everything was great apart from the chicken in it, unfortunately most pieces were quite dry.  I kind of wish that they would leave the chicken out so that I could just put in my own.

One thing I did like about this however, is that on the back of each of the meals is actually the recipe to make it yourself.  I felt like this was pretty unique as most brands wouldn't want to tell you how to make it because you would stop buying their version.

Next I cooked two of the Slimming World sausages.  My husband and I had one each and we both agree that the not very nice.  They have a texture that's not quite like meat and not really very much flavour to them either.  I think to use the other four up I should probably put them in a pasta or something just to get rid of them so needless to say, we wont be buying them again!

The last Slimming World meal I want to talk to you about was their Chicken Tikka. I had high hopes for this one to the point where as I actually bought two of them.  The flavour is fantastic and really authentic however once again, the chicken was pretty grim in it, dry and a little bit like it wasn't real chicken.  I just wish that they'd leave the chicken out because for some reason that seemed to be a problem in both meals.  Just to add as well, the photo above shows you half the pack but you don't get rice with it.  I do think that I would have this one again and hope that the chicken was okay.

Like I said in my last post, I like to watch things so going to encourage me so when I came across a girl on YouTube called Rose Keats (click here) who makes Slimming World videos. I literally watched everything she did last Sunday.  The videos are good because she does diaries whereas she switches the camera on to film every meal.  By watching Rose I have come across some new foods that are either free or have a low syn value, one of them being a Agave Nectar which is a syrup-like sweetener that is half a syn per teaspoon.  You can buy this from Tesco and Sainsburys and its with the sweeteners.

My next discovery of the week is the My Fitness Pal app.  I hear a lot about this app and to be honest, because I'm not exactly a gym bunny it's something that I just figured that I would have no interest in.  That aside, because the app is free I decided to download it anyway and see what it's all about and I have to say it's pretty ace!  It took me no time at all to create an account and then you input your details, your height, your weight, your goal weight, etc.  From there you then have a diary where are you log all of the food that you eat per day.  You can search for the products that you've eaten or you can actually scan the barcode on it and it recognises it (scanning things has amused my husband a little too much for a thirty year old man!)
Ultimately the app is more for calorie counting but it is a good idea because it shows you if you had your fibre for the day, etc and it's also a good way to actually remember any treats that you had as well.  The only thing is, because Slimming World isn't a calorie control plan I found that I have been sticking to Slimming World but also trying to stay within my calorie count (which you can set yourself.)  One good thing is that you can have friends on there, these friends cannot see your weight which was something that I was concerned with, they can just see what you've lost in pounds but unlike and support the things that you do, just like Facebook.  If you'd like to be my friend on there I would be glad of the support, just search for "liverpoollashes."

In the week I did actually go to Wetherspoon's for my lunch.   I chose their sweet chilli noodles with chicken which I adore.  The whole meal comes to just under 600 calories and in terms of Slimming World I believe it's around 10 syns.  We weren't celebrating anything special but I do think that it's a good idea to try and do normal things like going out for food and just picking a good option.  To me it just keeps a little bit of sanity as well.

A random favourite thing that I've been enjoying has been Alpen Light bars in Lemon Drizzle.  On the Slimming World plan you can have two of these a day and as Asda currently has an offer on (3 for £3) I've been bulking buying them!  If you're calorie counting then these are a delicious dessert alternative.

Apart from that I've been trying to half as many low syn meals so that I can use my syns on little extras like sauce, salad cream, etc.  If I make an omelette I do not use milk as I would rather my "Healthy A" (aka dairy) option be used on cheese for that day.

I did try to make the pancakes that Rose Keats spoke of, click here to see the recipe.  Slimming World say that mashed or blended fruit is synned as it doesn't fill you up but as they are just made from banana and eggs I don't bother counting it to be honest.  This is what the Agave Nectar is perfect for as it makes it a proper sweet treat either for breakfast or dessert and you could add fruit over it as well.

Another one of my favourite things to do is to make my own Scotch eggs.  There is a well-known company in the North West call Joe's Sausages they make sausages and burgers that are syn free on slimming world.  I have to say I used to adore them but I do think that they have changed the recipe to make them gluten-free and it's made them not quite as nice as they used to be.  That aside, they sell bags of sausage meat as well so all I do is I take boiled eggs, wrap them in the sausage meat and cook them and it's a completely syn free snack and a good thing to make if you were going out for the day.

So it brings me to today as I write this.  I must admit I have been naughty and I have been hopping on the scales all week.  As I mentioned in my last post, I did believe that my scales were a little bit off as they were giving me different readings every time I got on them which was so frustrating.  The only thing I found about buying new scales is that when you look at the reviews of them, there's always someone that says that the ones you're looking at aren't accurate and it's been putting me off buying new ones.
That aside, I thought that I would struggle on with the scales that I already had however I really do feel like I lost a decent amount this week so when I got on the scales and it said I had lost 2lbs, I was really upset and felt like I had definitely deserved more.  Stomping back to bed (not going to lie!) I then had a mooch on the Argos app and found the Weight Watchers Ultimate Precision Electronic Scales that had all five-star reviews, literally no one had a bad word to say about them.  To make it even better, they were half price reduced down to 25 pounds!  I quickly got ready, did what I like to call a "five-minute face" of make up and dashed down to Speke Retail Park with my reservation number.  I ended up being there before the store opened and back home not long after.  Can I just say that the scales are amazing?!  they measure all kinds for you and although I've got on them a couple of times they always give the same reading so you can be confident that they definitely right.  So I suppose you'd like to know I lost?  Well I could've cried with relief that my hard work is paying off because I lost 5 pounds!  That brings me to a total loss of 9 pounds so far in two weeks.  I couldn't be more happy and I'm keen to start the next week.
Things to remember:
  • Every day we have a choice, it's a fresh start and the most important part from any healthy eating plan is to just try and make as many days, good ones.
  • Losing a pound a week is still over three and a half stone in a year!

NOTD: Blue, Silver & Lace Nails

If you follow by Facebook page you'll know that yesterday my nail snapped pretty short.  I realise that in the whole scheme of things, this isn't the worst problem in the world but obviously I had two options.  I either could repair it or I go short with them all for a little while.  To some people that's a nightmare but I actually really enjoy having them short for the fact that even now I can type by actually touching the letters with my fingers (novelty or what?!) as well as it makes other things easier to do but, I must admit I do hate the look of my hands as it makes my fingers look oddly long.
Anyway, having nipped up to Creative Academy+ Manchester yesterday to get a new bottle of CND Shellac in Cerulean Sea, it would have been rude of me not to use it.  I applied Silver Chrome on my ring finger and thumb and Cerulean Sea on the rest.  I used Lecente's 'Goddess' Glitter over Silver Chrome and stamped a design from MoYou Bridal Plate 07 with black special polish.

I love these nails, they may be short but they're definitely fun and I love blue and silver together.  If you already bought Lecente glitter in Goddess then you need to.  You can't see as well in the photo but it has so many different colours in it, one of them being a colour similar to Cerulean Sea that it makes it so interesting.
I hope you've enjoyed this post!  Don't forget to follow my Facebook Page to keep up to date with all of my latest reviews, nail tutorials and tips!

Candlewick Greens Wax Melts

I feel like I say this all of the time but if you know anything about me it's that I love my scents.  My clients always compliment me on my home fragrances as they pass through heading towards my home salon, I've even had delivery drivers tell me "it's smells nice in there!" when I've opened the front door.

liverpoollashes candlewick greens wax melts

Candlewick Greens kindly sent me a parcel of goodies to review for you which, given that I adore scents, I was more than excited about.  Their brand hand pour wax melts and other delights that blow Yankee Candle and other wax melt brands out the water.  I feel like personally, Yankee Candle are only good for sniffing in the store and directly from the unlit jar at home.  When it comes to actually filling the room with scent they typically fail miserably (no offence if you're a YC fan but I'm just speaking the truth!)

liverpoollashes candlewick greens wax melts

If you're unsure what the wax tart world is all about then you have two options, you can either burn them on a wax burner with a tealight below or you can use the much safer option of an electric burner so it's flameless.

The above photo is of their "Tubby Chunks" in Raspberry Beret which looks delicious with its colourful pieces in, topped with a sprinkle of glitter.  I would say the scent is a little bit of a more sour raspberry than a sweet one which is good for those who don't like the super sweet scents.

liverpoollashes candlewick greens wax melts

The above photo is a "Scent Shot" which are typically what I would use.  I would say the fragrance kicks in after about 15 minutes of burning it which is fantastic. Most have give off fragrance for around 15 hours which is a brilliant amount of time given the size of them!

Once the wax is no longer giving off a scent you then either wait for it to cool and pop it out or carefully pour it into something like an old carton, then discard.

I just wanted run through a few of my favourites Scent Shots:
  • Amish Quilt - A gorgeous fresh linen fragrance.
  • Autumn Day - A lovely clean apple fragrance.
  • Pink Chiffon - A sophisticated fragrance that kind of reminds me of a Next perfume although I don't know which.
  • Sicilian Lime Grove - Literally like a delicious lime Grove.
  • Birthday Cake - Perfect name for it however I must warn you that it's so super sweet and realistic that it's probably not an ideal scent for someone trying to lose weight like myself!

With every order you do get a free samples to try out as well which is a good way as you may find you're new favourite scent!  You could even mix a bit of one in with a bit of another and make your own!  It's so much fun to do to custom make as required!

I hope this review has been useful.  Definitely go and check out Candlewick Greens website out.  It's regularly updated with new stock and it's created and I promise you won't be disappointed!

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

I've heard so much about the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer for a long time and wanted to get to a Nars counter to swatch them before I placed my order.  I finally did so recently and I've been trialing it ever since.

It's in the usual rubberised Nars packaging which I do like, it gives an expensive feel to it.  It has a doe foot applicator which is really easy to apply to my undereyes and it has a pretty full coverage.  I find that it also blends very well.

In terms of radiance, I think it offers a little but I can't work out if that's the product itself or if it's because I picked a fairly light shade.

I also apply powder to set it so I have to admit I do have to be careful, particular y with  the high coverage, not to go too mad with it or it can look like I have too much make up on.

Overall though, it's a fantastic product.  It really does conceal my dark circles and is very easy to use.  I would say that this one is definitely worth a try!

Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask

We all know that having moisturised skin is key to fighting off the signs of aging but is only when I hit my thirties a few months ago that I started to take it more seriously.

Although I have combination / oily skin, my face does often need that boost of moisturise so after trying a sample of Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask I knew I wanted to get the full size version.

The scent is fresh and a little fruity.  The  thing I like the best about it is that it's not something that you need to run off so I can apply it to work is magic whilst I sleep.  I wake up in the morning and my face is hydrated and soft.

I have to say I actually thought that this mask would be more expensive than it was so I was even more delighted.

I highly recommend this mask for a true moisture boost!

Faux Rhinestones & Studs

I decided to put today's post together because I realise that no matter how good you are bonding Rhinestones and studs to your client's nails, there will always be one that I swear will have them unattached before she gets into her car from leaving your nail desk.  I have to say, I am one of those people so I need a fool proof method as there's nothing worse than looking down at your nails and seeing where they used to be.
liverpoollashes how to make faux rhinestones and studs in Shellac

My method isn't anything ground breaking but I gives me the sparkle I need without worrying that they will be gone and spoil the overall finish.  They're not going to look exactly like a Swarovski crystal but they'll give a good illusion without a single chance that it will fall off.

liverpoollashes how to make faux rhinestones and studs in Shellac

So firstly for the rhinestones, I will use a particularly method, depending on the coloured stone I want to achieve but typically it's the clear stones so I would use silver.

liverpoollashes how to make faux rhinestones and studs in Shellac cnd additives
I will do the full design, whatever I need to do and finish with a cured top coat.  I will then use a dotting tool to apply CND Shellac Silver Chrome to add dots to where I want my stones to be, which I will then cure.  I then mix a glitter paste using top coat and two CND Additives in Shimmer Silver and Denim Geode in fairly equal amounts.  The chunkiness of Shimmering Silver will help give the appearance of the angles of a rhinestone and the Denim Geode will help fill in the gaps in between the Shimmer Silver as it's slightly finer.  I will apply this glitter paste over my Silver Chrome and try to keep it so that it sits raised on top of the nail, curing in stages as I apply them if I need to so that they don't fall back flat.  As they are made from top coat, I then just remove the sticky layer and they're done.

liverpoollashes how to make faux rhinestones and studs in Shellac cnd additives

My reasoning behind doing the Silver Chrome first is because if you do glitter paste dots alone, then they can often leave gaps between the flakes and you can see the colour underneath but I want a definite roundness to it.  I also applied the top coat before I started to create it as if you do it afterwards, it will fill in that raised area around the stone and make it looked like it's more of a hill on the nail than something attached to it.
Obviously if you want another coloured stone I would use the relevant coloured back and then chose an glitter and a fine CND Additive to fill in the gaps around it.
liverpoollashes how to make faux rhinestones and studs in Shellac cnd additives
So onto the studs, I have two methods that I do these and it really just depends on the materials you have to do them.  If I do them in gold I will literally make them as I did with the rhinestones only I use CND Additive in Gilded Gleam and a slight amount of Antique Gold to make it a little more eye-catching, along with CND Shellac in Locket Love for my base.  I will also make them less prominent compared to the stones.

liverpoollashes how to make faux rhinestones and studs in Shellac cnd additives
If I'm doing silver then I will finish the nail but before the top coat, I will remove the sticky layer directly from the colour coat.  I then apply CND Shellac in Silver Chrome in dots and cure.  I will take a silver foil and apply tiny pieces into the sticky layer of the dots, not much but enough to make it more like a metal finish.  When I'm happy I apply a layer of top coat and cure.

I hope you've enjoyed this post.  I think doing tiny rhinestones for a bridal party would be a brilliant idea as you know that they will definitely be there for close up photos.  Please don't forget to follow my Facebook Page to keep up to date with my latest updates, nail designs and reviews.

How To Easily Curl Your Own Hair

Today is more of a quick tip than anything.  I'm obsessed with curly hair, there's just nothing better than elegant waves, particularly in dark hair as it shows the natural shine off so much better.  With that in mind you'll know that I have been trying so many different ways to get my hair curly by doing it myself and I think I've finally cracked it although I  acknowledge my method is hardly rock science...!

Personally I like my curls to start from around my ear height, I just think it avoids looking like your a child going to your friends birthday party.  If you're like me, this will work great for you.

No matter what heated tool you're using, all I do is part my hair into pigtails and tie it behind each ear.  If I want low down waves then ill curl it like this however if I want some of them to be a little higher up then I will section my pigtails into four and curl.  I find its so much easier to cope with curling small ponytails at a time as I can check that there definitely isn't any straight pieces.  I then just remove the bobbles when my hair is cooled down!

Slim Down Sunday: Week 1

I just want to start off and say huge thank you to all of you for the support you gave me on last weeks post (click here if you missed it)  The truth is I spent most of last Sunday crying, weight is such an emotional thing and it couldn't be more of a big deal to me the fact that I'm sharing it with you, it is so personal to me as it's something I've struggled to understand within myself for years.

I've kept track of each day so that I can give you an accurate description of how my week is been.  You know what makes me laugh?  When you cut down for a day and all of a sudden you feel really skinny!  It's comical really but of course because you haven't eaten half the amount that you normally would, coupled with the fact that you're probably not drinking any fizzy drinks so you're not bloated, but regardless it is a little boost of confidence to continue on.  Although I didn't do very long on the treadmill on the first day, I did still feel that in the evening my knee was a little bit sore so I will have to be a bit careful with that. Of course exercise will make a massive difference but the truth is when I lost the three stone, it was near enough all just down to eating right.  I also got my husband on the treadmill when he came home from work last night which will do him some good too.
A lovely and unexpected thing was to receive a message from someone I've not spoken to in a little while.  She had seen the post that I had written starting all of this off and wanted to send her love and tell me I have her there to talk to.  Unfortunately, some people have been more supportive than others but it was lovely for her to get in touch and she has message me all through the week to see how I've been getting on.  Love and support is exactly what is needed to keep you going.

I have also started watching old re-runs of Super-size vs. Super skinny which are on throughout the night and I just sky plus them.  I find that this program in particular really spurs me on, I'm not sure whether it's because I relate to the super-size person and see how bad they have its look or that I look at the super skinny person and see the amount of food that they eat and how it doesn't really bother them or even factor into their minds on a day to day basis.  This is how I want to be, I'm trying to change my mentality that food is treat into it literally just to be used as fuel.

Another thing I've decided to do for next week is order from Gousto.  If you haven't heard of it before it's a UK based company that was on Dragon's Den with the concept of getting people to cook more.  Each week their website has dishes listed for you to choose from for either two or four people.  Once you've ordered they will then deliver a big box full of the exact ingredients needed for each meal so there's no weighing or measuring, you just need to prepare and cook like the recipe card with it states.  I wrote a full review last year including a video which I filmed really casual of my husband and I cooking that you have to see!  (click here to read the post and watch the video)  Ultimately some of the meals aren't necessarily "diet food" however because you're cooking from scratch anything that isn't "Slimming World" friendly I will just syn so for example, one of the meals that I've chosen the only thing that wasn't free is breadcrumbs so I shall syn them and that's fine.  As it tells you what is need for each recipe i've just chosen sensibly and this way I still got to use my half price discount codes before it runs out in July so it makes cooking fun as well.  (For reference, I chose the 'cooking for four people option' as it's only slightly dearer than the two people option and now I have an evening meal for six nights for twenty nine pounds and I get to make their fun, easy to follow recipes - bargain!)

If you do follow Slimming World, I thought I would just talk a little bit about the things I've been eating.  One of my favourite SW meal, particularly in the warmer weather is jacket potatoes.  I have my own little methods behind them.  I will cook them in the microwave, turning them half way through cooking.  I then put them onto a baking tray having sprayed them in Fry Light and sprinkled a little bit of salt-and-pepper and put them in the oven for about 45 minutes, once again turning them over half way so that you don't get one side that's dried out and tough.  This just gives a really gorgeous and delicious finish but yet it still syn free (the skin is the best bit, right?  I can never understand the people that leave the skin!)  Once they're cooked, I'll cut them completely in half, scoop out the middles into a bowl mixed with a little bit of cheese just to give it a bit of flavour, also I hate when potato is really hard and compact.  I will then say this with whatever I want, spaghetti or tuna is normally my favourite choices.

One of my favourite evening meals is what I like to call "Bow Bol."  If I call it this in front of people I do get some funny looks but effectively this a spag bol!  Spaghetti is too messy and I can't be trusted so I use bow shaped pasta instead!  To make this I literally just use a carton of passata, tinned tomatoes drained, extra lean beef mince, loads of mushrooms, onions and herbs.  I will also often add bacon as well.

Here's where it's time for me to confess though, on Friday my husband had had a really bad day in work so to cheer him up, I decided that we would go out somewhere.  I thought it would be a good idea to take a walk around the Trafford Centre and try my best not to buy another Jo Malone item(!)  I did say I would be completely honest with these posts so I will tell you that I did have a burger on Friday night.  The likelihood is that I will still do things like this every couple of weeks.  I think it's good for you mentally to have one meal, on occasion, that hasn't been restricted.  I don't want to be that woman that when all your friends want to go out for food you, have to be awkward about it.  I dithered about even having the burger but then I reasoned with myself that I had been brilliant all week.  One of my downfalls is definitely sweet things so I'm actually more so trying to keep away from sweet treats because I think that that could be the thing that would throw me off.  Previously when I have lost weight other times, I typically start craving deserts and chocolate and it's when I have them that I seem to not be able to stop myself wanting more so that is more of a concern for me this time.

Anyway I've tried to keep my treadmill activity but on the days that I haven't, they were the days that I went to Liverpool city centre and went around there or the Trafford Centre.  Movement wise I already do feel a difference, the best way to describe it is that I feel more springy and less sluggish.  Also I feel like my neck is more free and less restricted so I do think I could have slightly lost there too.

So I suppose the moment they are waiting for is for me to tell you what the outcome of this week was.  Well firstly my scales need to get their act together because they fluctuated between a couple of pounds every time I stepped on them which I'm a little annoyed about.  I'm looking to buy new ones but I feel like every review online says the same about all scales not being accurate so if you're reading this and you have a suggestion of one to buy, please let me know.  Going by the reading that I got the most times I weighed myself today, this week I have lost 4 pounds.  I must admit I was expecting around five pounds but with the problem with the scales, I'm not entirely sure if it is five after all.  Either way I figured it's a good start and with a loss next week it will take me to the stone bracket below which is exciting.  Although I do feel like my stomach is a little flatter, I can't yet see a difference in my clothes which is hilarious really as most of them are stretchy...!!  I do have a coat that's a good guide for weight loss so I will put that on every few weeks and use that to see the difference.

Another nice thing is that I've had a couple of people that seem to have been motivated by my post last week and one has joined slimming world and the other is considering it which is really positive.
I shall look forward to checking in with you next week.   I hope you've enjoyed reading this post.  If you have any Slimming World's recipes that an idiot could do (AKA, me!) advice, weight loss stories or anything, please message me on Facebook page, I do try to get back to everyone.
Love Karen xx
